I've been looking at E39 M5's on cgl all week, and this thread doesn't help. The mods done to your E38 are really tasteful and help to keep it timeless, I would maybe add one of these
Amazon.com : OttoNavi BM960339-DYBMNAXX BMW 97-03 E39/5 Series/M5 Multimedia In Dash Double Din OEM Replacement Car Radio : In Dash Vehicle Gps Units : Electronics Amazon.com : OttoNavi BM960339-DYBMNAXX BMW 97-03 E39/5 Series/M5 Multimedia In Dash Double Din OEM Replacement Car Radio : In Dash Vehicle Gps Units : Electronics
and then daily it as long as I could.

IMO, ditch the angel eyes. They look tacky on cars that didn't come with them from the factory.
I tend to agree but these dont bother me as much.

lol shocker. For whatever reason the world class engineers at BMW are not at all capable of designing good window regulators or cooling systems.

Not necessarily the engineering, but the quality of parts. Lots of plastic involved and not the hardiest plastic like the Japanese companies focus on.

incorrect.

They are very good at designing those stuff.
But they never really pay much attention on reliability.

Seriously, guys? We've gone through at least a dozen window actuators on our various Hondas and Acuras over the years. Let's not act like this unique to BMW. It is, after all, a small electrical part that's likely outsourced.

It's not like exploding engines...that IS something unique to BMWs.

of course it is not unique to BMW, my s2000 actuator cable snapped on me. It was so loud, i thought i got shot at.

My co worker's 08 CRV's all 4 window actuator went bad, i think there is a recall or tsb for that.

But generally speaking, reliability and BMW should not be in the same sentence. Of course personal experience may vary.

Yeah, I can't deny that; I owned an E60 M5. My 335i has been pretty good, though.

I've mentioned it multiple times before but a family member had a 2003 Cooper S and they went through three window regulators (OEM) within less than three years. The car only has two windows!

They didn't have a choice, I think. I'm pretty sure the car had an extended warranty. They were in a huge hurry to ditch the thing before the warranty expired

I have an 06 with extensive modifications and it's far more reliable than the '05 Accord I had before. *knock on wood*

The material selection and quality of said material is part of the design... Not sure where you work or what you do but if I deliver a design that works in CAD but spec materials that don't work reliably, I'd get canned pretty quick.

Again, reliability is part of design. If I designed an engine that generates 1000hp and gets 1000mpg with 1.6L and one turbo but it only worked for 1 second before dying, it would be pretty worthless in a commercial application right?

FWIW, I've never had a Honda regulator go in any of the Hondas I or my family has ever owned (8 of them total). I had 5 window regulators go on my E46 in the 4 years I owned it.

By your definition Honda has better engine design than say... Ferrari? Since it is more reliable than Ferrari's engine?

Mile for mile and maintained properly, a Ferrari engine (the engine itself) is probably just as reliable as a Honda engine. Engines are torture tested quite thoroughly during development, it's the stuff that attaches to the engine that is typically outsourced and usually sucks.

Now the electrical system on a Ferrari....

You'd think a race exhaust wouldn't seem good on a 7-series, but that ones sounds relatively subdued (in a good way). Nice choice.

Best looking 7-Series to date. Nice pickup. And nice that you know the person who did the modifications, in case an issue comes up. Those wheels look great imo.

Thanks guys!

Funny thing is that my old M3 is still for sale at a dealer locally.

Traded it in at a BMW dealer and they gave me $37k

New M4 came out

My old M3 is now listed for $34,999 at some small dealership.

I could get it back for cheaper than I traded it in it for.

I am itching for a sports car again though. Changes daily but the new Mustang GT has my eye.. mmm

You, in a Mustang? I'll believe it when I see it.

Not even a video of you thrashing around in it by yourself. Must be accompanied by signed ownership documents too.

I do miss the beefy V8 sound though... there's something about the German V8s. They sound angry, yet refined.
