I didn't know they pulled the trigger.

Torque ain't bad at 189 ft/lbs - on a pretty flat torque curve too.

I read somewhere that each of those first couple hundred cars costs Honda over a mil. each. I think if they build the cars, the filling stations will follow shortly.

I know the comment was a bit smart alec-y, but, from what little I know, Hydrogen Fuel Cells/Hydrogen Power is the *the* energy source of the future; not ethanol, not "bio-diesel", not battries, not gas-electric hybrids - those are all just half answers, IMHO.

And the higher oil/gas prices are, the more viable it becomes for the market-place to commercialize a "hydrogen energy economy".

Ehanol is a joke unless we want to turn all of the USA into a farm. From what I understand it takes a lot of engery to make hydrogen but I could be wrong on that. I heard an idea that I thought was good. Build nuclear plants and at night time when they arent running as strong and have the extra power produce hydrogen.

There is a limited number available to the public...in select cities of So Cal that are near hydrogen fill up stations. Its a $600/mos lease. I live in one of those cities

I agree. I have been very fortunate to have be involved with a fuel cell vehicle, and having learned a great deal about all the different types of technologies etc, I have come to the same conclusions. It will take some time, and a lot of money, but the potential is great.

Side note,....Honda's fuel cells are insane awesome. I got to check out the FCX at the SAE conference this year, and the damn thing is small (the fuel cell stack). AND IT PUTS OUT 100KWs,...sweet. to Honda

Look at how much power...and oil...it takes to produce ethanol.

The Germans in WW2 converted coal into gasoline more efficiently than this ethanol bullshit.

And thats a fact.

And welcome to 1999, Honda has been doing the hydrogen fuel cell route publicly for almost 10 years and they're lightyears ahead of everyone else.

To be fair, although it's been in the news a lot in the past month, the FCX thread here has been pretty quiet, so I can see how someone could've missed it:

The only issue is that the environmental impact needs to be minimized with the technology of today. I live around the corner from a coal fired electric plant (brayton point), and it's historically been one of the worst polluters in New England... It's gotten better, but there hasn' been a huge effort to make coal as clean and viable of an alternative as it could be.

We (the US) need to ramp up the research on converting coal into energy in a cleaner more environmentally friendly form. We're the Saudi Arabia of coal. We've got more of it then we know what to do with, but because of environmental concerns, we can't tap into that abundant resource.
