How would you like a $116,000 brake change?

Then purchase a new Mercedes SLR. I work in the parts department and had some free time so I looked up some parts for the halo car. Plus I got new pads and rotors for my 04 6mt last weekend, that also triggered the musing.

Here's the breakdown:

TWO FRONT BRAKE ROTORS: $23,540.00 x2
TWO FRONT GOLD CALIPERS: $3,190.00 x2
FRONT PADS: $2690.00
FRONT BRAKE PAD WEAR SENSORS: $20.79 x2
TWO REAR BRAKE ROTORS: $21,790.00 x2
TWO REAR GOLD CALIPERS: $2,300.00 x2
REAR PADS: $1,500.00
PARKING BRAKE LINERS: $226.98

Of course, this would be a seven hour job at a Mercedes-Benz shop rate of 130.00 an hour for a total of $910.00.

Add Washington State tax at 8.9 per dollar ($9548.87) and you have a bill of:

$116,557. 43

Will that be cash or charge?

Another reason you'd be better off to purchase a real super-car, you still have the insane maintainance fee's but you have a sick car compared to the SLR

are you mixing the SLR up with the regular SL or even an AMG SL?

cause the last time I checked, when the SLR debuted, they put it up against the Ford GT and Carrera GT over and over in every car mag that I saw.

Pretty legit to me

1 Question, why are you replacing the calipers for a brake job?

116k is nearly a 1/3 of the cost of the whole car.

I was thinking this over...$116,557. 43?

You have a choice of SO MANY NICE BRAND NEW cars you for that price, and still have change left over to put a pretty penny into mods!

You might as well just drive the SLR until the brakes wear down, sell the SLR, and buy another car!

No, I meant what I said. As far as super-cars go the SLR does absolutely nothing for me. Conversely, I'd take a CGT any day of the week, that car is bad ass.

That's probably only 15 grand but for 5 more grand they'll throw in a tire rotation

He was just pricing it out for fun but the only legit charges are the pads, $4 grand. So this should say "How would you like a $4,000 brake change"

just pricing it out, there was no actual customer that came in to do it. obviously you don't change the calipers out on a brake job, just pricing out the full meal deal. the rotors are ceramic. i'm not sure about the million-mile claim though.

just had some free time, thought i'd share. browsing wreckedexotics.com for wrecked SLR's made me cringe. not to mention every other supercar that i can only dream of owning.

hope everyone had a good monday.
