How to take off tint
Just bought my new car, well kind of new (05) and it has tint on it. The seller (private) told me it was legal and I believed him and I totally blanked out and forgot I would have to get it inspected. Anyway to pass it has to be legal 35%, and after a whole bunch of go here and do this I finally made it to state police who did a verification check. It showed up around 26%.
So I have to find someone to ignore it and just give me a pass or take off the tint. just to freakin re-tint it after I get my tags.
So if I go this route, how the hell do I do it? AND without screwing up my rear defroster lines?

u need to take off the tint off the rear too???
well to do your back windshield, you will have to get a big black garbage bag... and cut it to the size of the window... (i suggest that you cut it from the outside)... then you will need pure ammonia... spray the whole window generously and then put the black bag on the inside of the tint... so it will be (window, tint, then bag).... so park your car in the direct sun for 1 hr.... you are basically steaming the glue so that it softens and you can safely peel the tint off without damaging your defroster lines...
after one hour, carefully peel the tint... if it starts to peel and separate (tint is two layers) stick it back and let sit some more... good luck, take your time...

To take off the tint, you will need a big steam gun.
First steam the edge that your going to start peeling from, then get a blade so you can lift it up a bit, then the rest is just steaming the bish and lightly pulling away.
Quite a time consuming job.
Thats how I did it.
EDIT: You need quite a powerful steam gun though. Something industrial.

I only took off my fronts. I peeled it off and used a razor with water or window cleaner and it came right off. For me it was cheaper to remove and re-tint than "buying" an inspection sticker.

Personally, the fronts are so easy to do, it should take you about 10 minutes per window. Just do it yourself one evening.

I have done it without a black bag or steam gun- you just have to be patient with it.
You will need razorblades (preferebly with the handle attachment), a spray bottle, dish soap, and steel wool
Fill the spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of water/soap. Start at the top edge of the tint and peel off a piece to get it started, peel off as much as possible by hand. Use the blade to get the rest. A glue residue will be left over, spray it heavily with your mixture and scrape the glue off with the blade, get the little pieces with the steel wool.
Be very careful if you do this on your rear window not to cut the defrost lines with the razor blade.
