How is SUBARU quality and reliability?
I am thinking of buying the 2005 STi but wanted to know if SUBARU is a good quality and reliable manufacturer. Anyone who has a Subaru please let me know what you like and dislike about Subaru. Thanks.

They're quite reliable. Better than average, some are quite excellent. I'd suggest Consumer Reports at your local library. They recommend many Subaru models, especially the Forester.

I recently sold my WRX for financial reasons (couldn't pass up a 1st gen TL for $9K after second baby came!!). I belong to a Subaru forum and found a HUGE following of Subaru devotees who wholeheartedly believe in not only the quality of Subarus but their ease of DIY maintenance. A 2005 STi would be a great buy - frankly, it's gotta be considered one of, if not THE, bang-for-buck performance purchase out there, especially when you factor in what a few $K in mods will get you on top of stock.

My wife is still driving her eight year old Outback Limited. I'm not too cheap to buy her a new car, I just can't get her to part with it. I must admit it still looks and runs like new. We have had no significant problems mechanical or otherwise. Outbacks are built in Indiana, not Japan, by the way.

The parent company for Subaru is Fuji, a company that's the same as Catipular. They've been making heavy construction equipment and vehicles for years and they really know what they are doing. Mechanically, Subaru is very reliable and just as reliable as Hondas and Toyotas, but better than Mazdas and Mitsubishis.
Your really set to get the STi huh? You really should take your parents with you for the test drive and make sure the ride is not that rough for them.

My dad purchased a new '91 loyale wagon back in '92 for $9999...it lasted him like 220k miles and never had any major problems, just regular maitenance. I'd say that's pretty good quality..
Definitely get the STi...I saw one today up close and almost creamed my pants..

I have liked Subaru for some years now, and was sure I'd buy an WRX this year. I decided not to buy one because they have a reputation for problems with wheel bearings and clutches; both wear-out sooner than their competitors. Most of my decision was based on the radio show "Car Talk".
Other than that, the Subbie's are said to be fairly reliable. I'd look toward older Consumer Reports Magazines (at Library) or use this link for info from the parent company "Consumer Guides".

I've owned/own three (WRX, STi, Forester) Subarus in the past three years. The build quality on all three was better than on my '04 TL in refrence to rattles, creaks, paint quality and general assembly. I was really happy with all of our Subaru's and I would without any question purchase another Subaru along with recommending them family and friends.
I drove the fart out of the STi and WRX and never had any problems.

I was surprised to see that the Subaru Impreza according to the NHTSA is #1 in lemon law claims.
