How paint color affects car sale price...
Just for kicks I went to Edmunds to see how much my CL-S w/ 14.5k on it was worth. I get docked $50 bucks for having a white car! The only other color worse was "dark blue" at around -$65 but I don't think Aegean Blue would count for that. Light blue was +$55.
Silver/Gray was on top with +$70ish. Damn aluminum cans on wheels! They're a dime a dozen!

I sold my white CL, but seems most people did not want white.
I don't feel there's that many great color choices on the CLS.
I got the anthracite, see a lot of cars this color, but for all the CLS's it's probably the rarest after the 01 sundance Gold. Silver, black, anthracite, blue, red, white is the most to least colors for the 03 CLS. Anthracite was not offered in 01-02 for the CLS.
I'm happy with the antrhracite, not as common as silver, not as much work as the black.

Gold is now "popular"
Just checked Edmunds and Sundance Gold gives me a $64 bump up in price. I knew when I bought it in '01 that it might take a while for people to get used to the color, but exclusivity wins out in the end! Silver is the most popular vehicle color on most cars. Trucks get a "bump" for being red.

I really don't care how the color on my SMR CLS 6spd affects it's resale value.
I bought the car for ME. I wanted a RED luxury/sportscar, so I bought a RED luxury/sportscar.

Of course, this is all arbitrary (even if researched) by Edmunds... who knows.

OK: Time to have some fun here, but 99% of this post will be facts.
I work 100% in paint (liquid and powder coatings), so I am quite schooled in this.
Yea, sure. "Send you to school, buy you books, whadda you do, you eat the covers!"
Seriously, when you view a new car on the showroom floor, I know this is going to be hard to believe, but you don't really "see" the car. What you do see is the finish. It is your first judgement of quality.
Colors. Technically, over a long period of time, grass/kelly green is considered to be the most pleasing color as measured by blood pressure. Seriously, the auto makers do that shit. But as of lately, silver has taken charge as #1. But I have issues with silver. It blends in too much with asphalt roads.
Black and white is considered to be "ellegant", with white winning the race. I have had both, love them both, but my only bitch is that black looks really, really great! For about 15 minutes. Also the darker the color, and the higher the gloss, the more microscratches and swirl marks get exaggerated.
Blue is considered to be regal.
Red is also, but add agressive to that tone.
But anyone with a brain in their head knows that anthricite (which means black: go figure) is the PERFECT color for the CL-S.
Just kidding. But seriously, next time you get the opp, look at satin silver compared to anthricite, side by side. I'd swear the metalflake in anthricite is about twice the size of satin silver, and that makes it look nicer, to me.
Color is a SUBJECTIVE, not OBJECTIVE (and therefore measureable quality.) We all have nicely colored cars, or we wouldn't have bought them.
Now about them pink buicks and caddys...scratching my head about those.

Anthracite is Right.
dfreder370, I respect your knowledge on paint and esp! color choice but anthracite does not mean black, it is a noun for a type of mineral coal.
I actually would have liked a slightly lighter color than anthracite, like a medium silver or even a platinum. Anyway I want to highlight and lighten the anthracite. On a sunless day the anthracite looks just like a flat gray. I plan to try different waxes and preps for the paint to brighten, lighten it.
