In most cases I wouldn't buy used from a dealer either. They need to cover their overhead costs so the cars they sell are usually anywhere from 10-50% more expensive than a very similar car being sold by a private seller. Worse yet it's hard to find out the true condition of the car. Used car dealers are cheaper, but still sleazy and unpredictable.
You never posted all that.... good job. I would have bought the car in a situation like that too.
