5.0 is an awesome engine for an awesome car. If we could afford a third car or if I was a single guy with no dogs, I wouldn't mind having one! Great read. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thank you very much, Hapa.

I actually have a minor update. My buddy took delivery of his 5.0 yesterday. I stopped by his place to check it out and he was in fkn hog heaven. Very nice, he opted for white with track package and sync but not premium.

3.73 gears...
1st gear is scary for someone not used to torque.
2nd to 3rd is amazing though...chirps third although the included pirelli's put the power down VERY well. The car just grips.

Fun car.

You're all done now! Tell your wife to put a shock collar on your neck that goes off when you are too close to a Ford dealership. Lol!

i know it, trust me...but my practical side decided to wash the TL, fill her up and just enjoy driving it and love what I have. Not easy to do...but I can't think of a second car or a less practical car as my only/daily right now.

I love the Performance White. Especially with the new '13 style taillights.

I've always liked the Mustangs but I need four doors since it would be my daily.

Ford is changing that perception. Look at the people on this board driving them. None of them strike me as mulleted coke fiends.

That said, the next generation Mustang may finally kill that image once and for all.

With how well it's improved in the last few years...I'd really love to see what they come up with for the next body style too.

I agree about the image thing...in Miami, it's pretty cliche'd for many reasons. But that wouldn't stop me PERSONALLY from getting it. I've always loved the sound of it.

Yes, you are correct. I will also admit that it is one hell of a sports car for the money.

That is is...my impression of the 5.0 was that 420HP is some serious fkn business...1st was almost uncontrollable (for someone not used to torque and RWD). 2nd redlined to 3rd was an absolute blast. Those Pirelli tires it had were no friggin joke.

If someone here does buy one, you can save about a grand on your extended warranty by shopping on the net. There are at least 3 Ford dealers that market extended warranties very aggressively on the net. Ford warranties - good prices.

Jeremy....I would wait for the 5.0....

a 3.7 V6 will never give you the muscle car feeling or that exhaust rumble (right out of the box) and many more horses to your disposal like the 5.0 V8....I would actually save up for the Mustang Shelby GT500 but that is on a different level....

but if am going to a muscle car, I prolly would not consider the 3.7 V6 UNLESS I am on a very tight budget to get a new car....

...I know it Anil. Thanks for the advice.
and honestly, if you're on a tight budget, or end up getting a V6 rather than the 420 hp pony car...there are a lot of other options out there at that price point that are good V6's. (no offense S A CHO...fk me, just realized that sounds out to be SHO! )

I wonder how many people actually get that?

I didn't necessarily buy the car only because it was a good V6, it was just the right package for me. I wanted a coupe, with at least 300 horsepower, RWD, manual, for under $30k that wasn't a Genesis, Camaro, or Challenger. (Not knocking the other cars, the Mustang just suited me better and was by far the cheapest of the bunch)

I'm fortunate to have been able to buy myself a brand new car when I was 22 years old, I'm not going to be that kid wishing I got 5.0

Brother, trust me. It's more of a "thing" for me since I NEVER had a 5.0 when all my friends did. The 3.7 makes a LOT more sense for my needs based on price, and the fact that it gets better mpg with a lot more torque than my TL.

I bet if you're patient and thorough you can find a guy in his 50s who bought a 5.0 on a whim and realized it's too much car for him. I bet you could get it around what a new 3.7 would cost and because it's an older guy there's a good chance he wasn't doing burnouts in the Walmart parking lot with 53 miles on it.

This might be a bit of a stretch. It's still a 5.0 after all

Nice! Did he get the Recaros too?

I don't know if it's because it got cold out or just the tires are getting worn out. I have close to 11k miles on my 13 5.0.
but it's like playing slip and slide thru the first 3 gears with massive amounts of wheel hop. It's easy to catch though and it's fun mashing the throttle around a corner and power-sliding at will.

Are aftermarket rear motor mounts available for the 5.0? The ST also has wheel hop... but that is fixable.

Lucky for me, I keep a car without enough torque for wheel hop to be a problem !!

No sir, that's one thing I didn't understand. He got employee pricing (he worked at the dealership for 2 months...wasn't making enough money but ordered the car and is leaving soon after taking delivery)...and spent 1000 of the 3400 for SYNC of the Premium Package. He paid the 2000 for track...suspension, wheel/tire, brembo upgrade but didn't get the cool gauges or the leather recaro's. I really disagreed with him on that choice, but I guess he didn't mind having cloth?

Anyway, amazing car...I did imagine that the pirelli's were a HUGE help in putting the power down, so maybe if yours are wearing that might be part of the hop?

Also, I don't think I'd spring for anything before the 2013...so I'll have to be patient...that whole Chinese tranny issue thing that Ford supposedly didn't respond to on the 2011's scared me.

That wouldn't help for a RWD
Wheel hop for us would require rear lower control arms. Which should be my next mod when I get the funds.

Yeah, they basically told us to shove it and it's our fault the transmission is crap. While it's not terrible, there are some little things that bother me about it.

or traction bars? they still make those?

Yeah, well, I'm glad you're able to live with it...some of the youtube vids of the knob popping out of/not going into gear was disturbing to me.

Either way, helluva car, man. Enjoy!

They made such an expensive blunder I am not surprised. I have a feeling there will be a recall at some point if someone gets hurt as a result

^^^I was waiting for that. A mass recall over time...but figured they'd let people sell the car on to unknowing second owners and give themselves more time to handle the load. Plus, that's a HELLUVA job. Not like a quick power steering hose for us

The tranny was my biggest issue in buying the 5.0. So far it hasn't been a problem. I would say notchy while it's cold is the only thing I've noticed. *knocks on wood.

the 3.73 gears makes 6 speeds optional though.

Funny enough, even in my buddy's 2013...he said that he wasn't a fan of the way the tranny felt and to me, it did feel extremely notchy/harsh to get into gear and I only drove it around the block.

One of my buddies bought a brand new (in 2010) stang and I gotta say it made me a fan. I like Acura's steering wheel control placement better like the OP but that's a pretty minor thing. These newer ponies are definitely on my list.

Sadly he totaled it after only driving it for a grand total of a month...idiot got all liquored up and plowed straight into a parked Suburban -_-

Gotta love craigslist...$250 for magnaflow tips, muffler deletes and x pipe...he says rasp is a lot less apparent in person and under load. Sounds like a monster.
