How fast is a 2001 S4?

I have a friend who daily drivers a 2001 S4. It has a catback.

How fast are they?

I told him I got a 05/TL/6MT and he wants to race. I was thinking of getting a CAI first.

Horsepower 250 @ 5800 RPM
Torque (lb-ft) 258 @ 1850 RPM

Before mods, yes they are fast. He will probably beat you.

My friend has a yellow '01 S4, and if your friend is good with a stick, you are pretty much toast. The 0-to-60 on a stock S4 is about 5.5 seconds. It has a 2.7 liter V6 twinturbo, and I've been in the car with my friend before, the thing flies. Plus, his engine is probably broken in well, which makes it even worse for you and your new TL. Get the CAI to try to even it up more, but odds are you will lose.

Car-Stats.com Report for 2001 Audi S4 Quattro
Obtained from C&D October, 2001
0-60: 5.5 Transmission: Manual
1/4 Mile: 14.2
1/4 Speed: 97

If you are a really good driver and he is so-so then you have a CHANCE. Try racing from a roll and you might do a little better. Remember, AWD works to his advantage in the 0-60 and that also cuts time from his 1/4 mile. I think 97mph is a faster trap speed than the TL so don't mess up your shifts!

Driven equally, the S4 should win but it's close enough that you have a chance.

Oh, and if he's modded, don't even bother! I wouldn't even bother. Those things can be beasts with only a chip and exhaust.

Man, I had to struggle to figure out what the hell you were even trying to say. Please attempt to use proper, or at least decent grammar and sentence structure. It makes for easier reading.

Specifically, WTF are trying to say here? Are you saying the S4 or the TL will be faster off the line? Oh well, the S4 would get a much better launch than a TL. Like others have said, should be a fairly close race, but the only chance of you being able to win would be if the driver of the S4 was terrible.

s4 + RS4 parts > a-tl.com

saw one heavily modded S4 with dual intercoolers and a bunch of RS4 goodies run low 11's...

Are you serious about racing this car with your TL?

The only thing would have made that harder to read would be to remove the spaces and surround the text with '::' .

Now come on...in STOCK form that car is not even close to a STI. There is about 3/4 of a second difference in their stock 1/4 miles. The STI could miss a shift and probably still come out even. The '01 S4 is an awesome car...but it isn't a straight line speed machine until you mod it well. Now throw in some twisties and wave bye-bye to all of our understeering Acuras.

I agree on the though...

Yes that's me. Who are you?

I just found out he has more mods and runs low 13's, so I will not race him except for laughs. He and I have a rivalry, my Firebird runs low 10's and his Camaro is now in the high 9's.

How good of a driver is he? A lot of AWD owners I've seen can't launch for shit.

If he's not that good at launching, then I say go from a stop.

My buddy has a 2000 S4 with tons of RS4 parts on it, spent about 15k dollars in mods. It's a focking beast. I had a chance to buy it earlier this year, but I just couldn't part with my beloved TL-S.

FYI - I have personally seen a newer Accord V6 (w/manual tranny) run 14.2 in the quarter with only a CAI.

I would love to see some times from a fully broken in TL 6 speed with a good driver with a CAI (and maybe exhaust?). I don't see why 14.2 seconds would be terribly unreasonable for that combo.

In that case, a modded TL 6 speed vs a stock '01 S4 - it might be a draw.
