How can Acura CPO a car that was in a wreck?

This is just scary... So my buddy bought an 04 TSX and within ONE month it was in two accidents. One he got rear ended but wasnt much damage done. The 2nd was a hit and run when the car was parked which costed $16k to fix.

he sold it and got a 06 IS250 but here is his TSX for sale. Says its even CPO with a clean carfax.

Guess us as a consumer really have to look over cars when buying used.

The carfax history is clean on the VIN. However, carfax states "Not all accidents or other issues are reported to CARFAX".

That said, that is scary though. Caveat Emptor.

Was the Acura dealer made aware of the damage?

And the body shop must have done an amazing job because damage from an accident, especially damage to the frame, should be pretty noticeable.

What legal avenues would be open to someone who bought a CPO Acura and then later discovered it was in an accident?

Acutally i realized somthing. He bought it used and it was a CPO at the time. So maybe they just kept it with the car and didnt bother to check the rest of it out?

Also he traded the TSX to a lexus dealer, so i have no idea if the acura dealer knew it was in a wreck.

Kinda hoped they missed it when I was rear-ended. They didn't.

There are alot of easy ways to tell if a car was in a wreck, or even if body panels were repainted. It bothers me that people dont really take the time to look over the car when they buy it....

CPO vehicles are supposed to be collision free.

Well lexus dealer mentioned that the front bumper was repainted and asked him if it was in an accident. So he told them. No mention of the rear though.

why should it be noticable? these cars are unit body and they are very easy to repair. If there is damage, like in the pics above the panel gets replaced. Making it very difficult to spot damage. Especially if the shop knows what they are doing. Thats teh beauty of cars now days. they can have extensive damage and be repaired easily with no actual side effects to structure
