Looks like Volvo's safety consciousness is much more than an image. Ford Motor Company, including Volvo, earned 16 Top Safety Picks for 2009 from the Insurance Institue for Highway Safety. MotorTrend's Truck of the Year, Ford F-150 was among those receiving"good" ratings for front, side, and rear crash safety. IIHS Top Picks also must have electronic stability control. Honda/Acura was second with 13 picks, including one for the Fit, the first B-segment car to earn the grade. Chrysler was the only major automaker lacking a Top Pick, having fallen short on front seat head restraint safety. IIHS says the 72 Top Picks were awarded this year is more than double the 2008 number and more than triple the 2007 number.
