Honda Acord 2000, bad alternator

my gf's car is Honda acord 2000, with 26K miles, and its alternator died!
The OEM part itself is like $400, not counting the labor
It in my mechanics shop, he said he will also check if we can put something non-OEM to save some money.
I looked at her alternator and its almost identical to mine.
what the hell is going on?! even my mechanic was like: "I have never seen those things fail so early on Honda".

I think CLS has identical or very similar alternator made by the same manufacture.

regardless, just check out v6performance.net its a pretty big accord forum and they will be able to help you out more than most people here considering that is a known problem with accords.

I believe the CLS alternator is made by Denso.

yep, its the same manufacture, might even be the same model number. To me its just unacceptable to have bad alternator on a car with 4yrs and 26K miles.

Yeah, its Nippon-Denso.

You can get it fixed for far less. Shop around.

Yeah, my mechanic will have it done for like $300 including labor.
I could take it to Honda, and pray for them to me a favor, but my car needs towing and I don't feel like taking chances.
I dont know whats happening with those japanese cars, they were supposed to be reliable... but now we got transmissions... alternators... its fuking falling appart.
