Hm .. is this wise?

So my parents have decided to get a 2004 Cadillac CTS for my sister [ who is only 18 btw .. ] tomorrow. She's coming from a Dodge Ram 1500 that worked perfectly fine, save a few electrical gremlins, shitty paint, and a rusty underbody.

Now normally I'd be happy about it, HOWEVER .. my sister's still in high school, and looking at my CL-S when it went through high school .. I think she'll get twice the "jealous hater" dings I got when I first got my car. Add in the fact that it snowed heavily in Alaska a few days ago, and the CTS is RWD being driven by someone who has less than a year of driving experience under her belt.

I personally thought this was a poor choice on my parent's part, I know they want the best for her [ and I ] but I'm actually afraid of my sister driving such a machine. I suggested a Subaru since AWD and their cars' reputation for safety is always a good choice for peace of mind, but I guess my dad has this superiority complex .. He won't have his kids have anything higher in brand level than Acura, and says Subaru's a waste of money ..

Think she'll be okay or should I further urge my parents to look elsewhere?

You are both lucky. My parents didn't buy me any car. But it should be better than the Dodge as far as safety goes. Be happy you and her get anything.

If he's dead set on it, maybe some snow tires are in order? I personally don't think that's a good 1st car, but your dad sounds like his mind is made up.

Poor girl was stuck with a Dodge Ram in High School? I say let her have the CTS so she can enjoy herself.

Just get her snow tires for winter. She will be fine if she can handle a big truck without bashing it up.

Through the warnings out & if anything happens let it be on them.
There is a very good chance she will be fine & problem free you know. Worry about things that happen & not things that may happen.

Then in general, for a young and inexperienced driver, I don't think it's a good car.

Yeah, you guys are right. Maybe I'm overreacting as a big brother and thinking my sister will drive too much like an idiot, much like I was. The CTS will be a better vehicle than the Pathfinder I had for my first car which was fairly problematic.

I don't either, but then again, getting a POS that's been around the block would be much worse for her ..

I don't think getting a POS is a good idea either (as far as reliability goes), but something cheaper and less powerful to learn on would be good. I was thinking along the lines of a Civic, Mazda3, or one of the cheaper Subies, but it doesn't seem like your dad is into that idea.

CTS's aren't powerfull and a 2004 CTS is around 15-17K. So it's not like she's getting into a luxo ride. It's about as much as a used subie, mazda3, new bodied civic

ZINGGG! Oh man, sorry killer.

And wow, what a turnaround. I got a text from my sis saying they're gonna go with a RumbleBee Ram. A little under $19k for it, not bad ... If the previous owner is who I think it is, he's widely known as a jackass driver, used to live not that far from my area. I'm wondering if the engine's beat all to hell ..

Wow ..

My sister brought her new truck to school this morning and my mom emails me telling me it already got keyed.

I remember bringing the CL-S to school the first few days and got two dents plus a $400 race challenge.

Jealous fucks ..

Unfortunately yes, these Alaskan kids LOVE drama since there's nothing else to do here .. I guarantee, if you have something nice here and you're young, you're gonna get hated on a lot.
