Went out last night to get some food, took my sisters scion tc. I come out of the place and a taxi driver comes up to me and tell's me a white lexus hit my car, he saw it and he wants to be a witness so I take down his number. I notice there was a camera recording so hopefully it got the license plate of the car. Im going back to the place today to see the footage. My question is what happens after I file a police report?

 

File the report asap if you haven't done so already. Any luck with the video? It's going to be tough if you don't have the license plate. My guess is the police really won't have anything to go on without witness/proof providing the plate #.

Get that cab driver to help, and hopefully the video shows something.

 

Then contact your insurance carrier, make a claim and give it all the info (witness and police report number as well) so it can pursue the hit & run driver.
If your insurer locates that driver and recovers money, your carrier will mail you a check for any deductible it charged you.

If the cabbie didn't get the plate then you may be screwed depending on if the camara got the plate and the resolution is good enough where the plate can be read. Either that or the PD can enhance the vid enough to make it readable.
