Here is a surprise: Mazda6 booted off CR's recommended list

because of poor reliability in first year or two.

So, that kind of validates those of us who looked seriously at the M6 and opted for the TSX instead.

Yup. CR does their survey every year and they revise their reliablity recommendations evey year based on their newest wave of data.

I might not have a TSX today if not for that practice. I started to look right after the BMW 325 got removed from the list.

my sister bought one of those. it was a total piece of trash. she had to take it to the dealer three times for a problem(i can't remember what it was) that was unsolvable. the dealer had to buy it back under the lemon law. But that took a long legal battle.

I wonder what happened to the Mazda 6? It's usually a fairly dependable car.

Maybe the rust issue caught up with it??

I was hoping that car would do well. I really like it, especially the wagon.

that wasnt a rust issue, it was a adhesive used for door and trunk sealent that would discolor. That was fixed on 2004 models.

It wasn't rust. It was iron that would oxidize after exposure to water

edit: I should give the disclaimer that I actually have no idea what it was, but it looked like rust.

i have a co-worker who had to bring his 6 in to the dealer 2x because it would just die on him. turned out to be a bad throttle body design and the only way mazda realized this was when they flew an engineer from japan to the states. he only had 4k miles on the car.

IMO the only reason to get a 6 over a 3 is it you want a v6 (or maybe more room).

I think the 3's are surely eating into 6 sales to some extent .

I wouldn't touch a Mazda if my own money were involved. They're okay cars to drive as long as someone else is footing the bill.

Where did you find this info? I looked all over the (admitted hard to navigate) CR site and found nothing

I would love to read whatever it is you're reading on this.

Yeah - I think this is Mazda's worst nightmare. I know my only fear is that the Mazda would not be unreliable and I had to go with my gut to stay with the better Honda/Acura product. I know we have all complained about this issue and that. But CR just recently praised (again) the top notch combo of pluses (especially reliability) of the TSX

Here's to hoping that the TSX continues to do well and receive high marks for 2-3 more years. This can certainly impact resale value ... especially on the private retail market.

Wow, the Mazda bashers are just : :gheyfight:

Lots of B.S. in this thread. But what to expect from a biased group?

I was very serious in purchasing the TSX, but after driving it (auto), I realized this car doesn't compare at all to my brother's loaded 6s with sport package.

Why? The engine. The v6 is just far ahead of the 4 cyl. in the TSX. I didn't expect much of a difference in the TSX, but it was just slow. It felt like a friends Camry CE.

I liked the TSX's layout of the dash and center console, but the 6 is just as good when loaded fully loaded. Way more room, : more power, and more car for the money.

The 6 is definently a quicker car with the V6, no doubt, but there is alot more to a car than acceleration. And in every other respect, the TSX OWNZ the 6, sorry. In my opinion anyway.

But lets keep this on topic. The 6 was removed from CR's recc list, lets hear why.

As this has been discussed numerous times ... I think the concern being noted here is that the M6 owners might have to worry a bit more about resale/reliability than they originally planned for. I guess in 3 years we'll see

Both are great cars, and the M6 is a good buy ... at least up front.

I wonder if it was taken off the list because of the Ford V6 engine?

Umm, where's the Mazda bashing? If you actually look around here MANY of the people here considered or are considering a Mazda (3 or 6). But for whatever reason chose a TSX instead.

Personally I had concerns about realiability from Mazda. I think they've made a remarkable turn around, but I don't think they're quite there yet.

By the way like Domn mentioned, the topic is that Consumer Reports dropped the Mazda off of their Recommended list due to reliability issues. . . so I really don't get what you're saying .

Shhheeess, I almost bought one of those. I came away feeling like overall it's an OK car in most respects but not really good in any respect. I could see my mom driving one of these.........

Not way more room, sorry; you make it sound like the 6 is a Lincoln Navigator and the TSX is a Civic.
