The first production Elise-bodied, Corvette ZR1-powered Hennessey Venom GT adds a layer of shiny paint, but with 1,200 hp and a 2,548-pound curb weight the first customer will surely strip it back down to its carbon fiber body.
After months of staring at the concept Venom GT, the production model's finally here and for your hard-earned $1,000,000 you'll end up with a car rarer, cheaper and, frankly, more outrageous than any Bugatti Veyron on the road.
With the nose of a Lotus Elise and the big, bad American V8 this is the world's greatest hybrid. In the top-of-the-line trim the mid-mounted aluminum LS9 benefits from twin Garrett turbos and produces an insane 1,200 HP and 1,135 lb-ft of torque all in a 2,548-lb carbon fiber body. It's basically what Colin Chapman would've envisioned if he was tripping on pcp and Enzyte.
This model comes with a 6-speed Ricardo manual and theoretically reaches 260 mph in sixth gear at 6,600 rpm, though the speedo goes up to 270 mph. Someone's gonna have to test this (we volunteer). All this translates to a 0-to-62 MPH in 2.9 seconds. Stopping power comes via Brembos with 6-piston calipers and 15-inch carbon ceramic discs at each corner. The sleek body provides a drag coefficient of 0.36 with the rear wing down and 0.43 with it up.
John Hennessey calls the Venom "the fulfillment of a dream" he's had since he was a kid. We think the Elise-based, 725 hp Corvette ZR1-powered Venom will replace Miranda Kerr as the star of some new dreams for a generation of kids.

"The 750 hp Hennessey Venom GT price starts at $600,000 USD (almost stock ZR1 LS9), while the 1,200 hp version starts at $725,000 USD (LS9 w/ two Garrett turbos). If you want the car in Europe, the Hennessey Venom GT price goes up by just under $25,000 USD."
It's a cool concept, and it seems they are targeting that it's less expensive than a Veyron, but how much would it cost to put two Garrett's on a ZR1 and have almost the same feel of a ride? $135,000? It's good to see these custom high hp cars, but it's a crazy price tag for what it is IMO... a ZR1 Elise.

And this is going to be an exotic. Exotics are never about value.
What's the top speed supposed to be on this thing anyway?

I also have two additional things to say:
What does GT stand for in Venom GT? There's nothing grand touring about this.
And I love how American supercars and exotics have really come around. Ford GT, Saleen S7, Corvettes, Vipers, SSC Ultimate Aero, the new Panoz, and this Venom.

I would like to know more about this 1200hp. The Hennesey viper that smoked the Veyron in a 0-200mph test also had 1200hp but it wasn't there all the time. As speed progressed it raised the boost to increase HP when it was more usable. I don't remember the stats exactly but it was something along the lines of 700hp until you reached 80mph then it went up to 900HP until you hit 120mph, then I believe it gave you everything it had. I can't imagine trying to launch this thing if you have 1200hp on tap at all times.

$725,000 USD??? Do they think everyone stupid? All it is a Lotus body with a pumped up ZR1 engine.
Will it perform as well in 2-3 years frm now. The Veryon will require little adjustments aftre 2-3 years. The car will require a new engine since the ZR1 engine wasen't meant for this kind of power.

Someday, an RS6 Avant+
Um, wow..... Very nice for a price.
I could do a lot better at these price points, but that's not the point of the car.
