Help me pick out my new car thread #23784

I've been driving a 4runner for over 2 years now and I am getting REALLY bored of it. I bought it because at the time I needed an all weather car for the commute to and from work (45 miutes to 1 hr each way). My workplace doesn't shut down for -any- amount of snow.

My situation has changed. I've sucked it up and now I take the train to work. The train station is 5 minutes from my house. I am still however leaning toward AWD but it's no longer a requirement. It's my continuing lust for the e-46 m3 that got it on my list. I'm also getting tired of losing tons of money on new cars since i seem to go through them rather quickly so you'll notice alot of lightly used cars on this list. Here are my current options on the table, both new and used (yes, this is all over the map...that's why i need some feedback):

1. Used e46 M3 (2004 or newer)
2. 2007 BMW 328xi coupe (hate the lame dashboard but everything else looks good)
3. 04-05 Audi S4 (Jesal says it's boring to drive?)
4. 2004-2005 Volvo s60r (not extremely inspiring yet extremely affordable)
5. Wait for the 08' EVO X (so long as the boy racer look is gone)
6. Wait for the 0?' VW r36 (Always had a thing for VW hatch's)
7. G35x...is an AWD coupe coming(not gtr)??
8. Porsche Carrera C4S (2001-2002)
9. 2007 Audi TT (chick car still or not?)

I'd like to stay below 45k$ and domestics are not being considered because of past experience.

Next G35 or 328xi

You really couldn't go wrong with any of those though

You don't need AWD in snow. Common sense and winter tires can get you through snow just fine even in RWD.

I don't like fucking around with two sets of rims/tires. Common sense may be an issue as well .

I've always wanted to be rich enough to drive a C4 porsche thru the New England winter w/ snow tires and not give a fuck about wear and tear on the car...

But out of those, I'd probably pick a BMW or an Infiniti...

No Legacy GT on the list ??

While I love the Legacy GT...I just feel like I'd get tired of it too fast since I don't plan on modding this car... A stock Legacy just isn't all that exciting to me..even in the special edition trim ('spec something' i forget) Mattg's is badass but I just don't want to get into modding cars again. too much of a headache for someone that flips cars every year/2 years.

S4 isnt boring, just isnt as much fun as a M3. Drive one, you might like it though.

If you dont want to swap out tires every season then get the NEW G35x. (assuming it has allseasons)

Problem with some of those listed is that they come with summer tires. So even if you get AWD you will have issues in the snow.

I would try to spend a tad but more and get a 335i

I'd suggest at least waiting for the next G. And can't you get into a 335 for 45K?

Although I LOVE german car, the upkeep in pretty bad from what I have heard. But if you can afford one and the upkeep, i would go german. But since you only keep a car for 2 years, then upkeep is not really a problem...

I wouldnt get a porche as a daily driver. I would go with the beemer or audi. All of the nissan products that I have seen have interior build problems. They just seem kind of cheaply done on the interior. Thats just my

BTW, the Carrera is a great option too, just make sure to stay away from older models w/ the little 3.4L, the 3.6L is a must!

And it'd make a great daily driver!

Not the most comfortable car I have sat in that could be because I am 6'-1 and 200lbs.) Harsh suspension (its a true sports car, so thats a given), Expensive to maintain (as is the other cars), if you get into an accident its gonna cost an arm and a leg to fix.

I dont know. I think part of me was freaking out because it was a 55k dollar car and it was not mine. Maybe if it were mine I would feel differently.

One of our super intendants had it and I even asked him if he would drive it every day, he said no. Just because it was not the most comfortable car in the world. A little unpractical, if you know what I mean.

Last I checked, you have insurance for when you get in an accident

Harsh suspension? Porsches are some of the smoothest stock cars i've driven, even w/ PSS9's installed car still feels flawless. It's funny though, of all high dollar sports cars I think porches are the most practical; and that's been a huge selling point for them. They are a daily driver unlike a lambo, ferrari, etc.

Don't see how that car would be any more impractical then what was also mentioned, or even harsher in the ride department.

I have never driven anything more exotic than that. So I really dont have anything to base it from. I just think that it is unpractical for me.

Your right, you do have insurance. But your insurance premium would generally be higher on a porsche, than say a GTO. You of all people should know that.

Dont get me wrong, the car did ride very well. I like feeling the road when I drive. Sometimes. I just dont think I could drive one everyday.

How do you like your GTO anyways, I have loved those cars since I first saw them as Holdens. I was happy as a pig in shit when they brought them here. Still dont see why they are getting rid of them.

Well the cars you've listed aren't all the same in cost even though your up front costs are the same.

The maintenance on the Carrera will notably be more than say the used BMW M3 and that one more than the G35.

I love my G35 coupe '05 and think it's been great fun to own and still within my means.

Personally I wouldn't own an Audi because of the multiple stories and poor ratings of reliability from the company. They're still beautiful cars and I'd say the TT isn't THAT girly of a car ... is it?

Well, let's not get insurance premiums involved

Love my GTO, reason they are getting rid of them is they don't meet air bag regulations starting next year.
