Arai is a better helmet IMHO...but the AGV graphics are much better than the Arai.

nope, just starting out so i bought a 91 fzr600. i don't plan on being some idiot who buys a brand new bike off the lot. anywho, the bike is all white. at the rate i'm going, i don't think i'll be matching much, but it's my first bike so i don't expect this bike to stay around that long.
any riders out there in the bay area or in davis?

oh, before anyone mentions any other design from arai, i picked this one b/c it was the only one i could find for cheap. both helmets cost around ~350 bucks. considering most arai costs like >540, i decided to stick with this particular style and color b/c of the price.

I go with AGV personally...get alot of helmet for the money. Frankly, I've never spent more than $150 for a lid. AGV is the only brand that fit me though...all the others seemed too "big" in one area or another. AGV has a good cheek fit as well.
Both are very light, but the ARIA is a bit quieter. Both have removeable liners(or should for that money).
Check out mawonline.com for prices. If their price is close, call them up and ask for a 5% discount and they'll usually oblige.

Quality is a relatively mute point, as they are already manufactured in excess of DOT specs.
Don't get me wrong, they are great helmets, but the best in the world...that is a matter of taste. AGV makes helmets just as high in quality.
Hell, I had a $70 shoei save my head when I was 19...but I don't wear them now(they make my head look too big ).

There might be a marginal diff between a $75 and $300 helmet, but I don't see a life or death difference in quality between a $150 & $300 helmet...still just layers of styrofoam, fiberglass & cushion. If you think paying the extra $150 for nice paint & air fins makes it a safer helmet, that's your opinion. But, by looking at both manufacturers sites, the main difference in the expensive helmets are the custom graphics, cooling vents, and trick visors. All still Snell/Dot certified...even the cheapies.

wow this thread is old. my love my arai corsair. i'd buy another if i ever crashed or dropped it. it fits my head better than shoei. but i think almost all helmets are the same from a reputable company, it's just a matter of fit and comfort depending on head shape
oh yea, i'm in the market for sv650/s or f4i as a commuter bike

Adventurist.
Old thread, but good points.
I don't how many of you read the study done on real life testing of helmets and their impact AND penetration resistance. I forgot who did the test but it was such a huge hit to the manufacturers that it changed the ways helmets are molded.
Anywho, the funny part was that a $75 Scorpion helmet was at the top of the list and took all the hits each test entailed. It prevented not only penetration at unbelievable pressure but prevented energy from being transfered to the inner part of the helmet (which transfers to your skull).
The problem with DOT spec helmets is that they are not tested for penetration or oblique angle impact, a huge factor in a crash. (How many crashes result in a rider falling directly inline with their spine? In other words, do you call head first?)
The biggest thing about helmets is fit. Then the type of molding they do. Brand, yes although nice, can be miniscule to the choice. Riders and racers alike wear everything... Shark, Suomy, Shoei, AGV, Arai, you name it. Every racer crashes and what saves their ass if a properly fitted helmet.
I opt for helmets which are BSI certified (the reason I have 2 Suomy's. One I have crashed in and saved my ass). They not only design the helmet around real-world crashes but their batch testing is done on every helmet, not just 1 out of every 1000.
Never choose a helmet on looks or aesthetics. Choose the one you would like to see your head come out of intact when you crash at 45+mph.
