Help me choose a new car
hornyleprechaun - By my earlier question, I was wondering if you like fairly responsive, fun to drive cars like many Hondas, Mazdas and BMWs, or if you preferred more isolated, comfortable cars like many Toyotas, GMs and the like.
As for manuals, I highly recommend them, but they are getting very difficult to find.
Anyway, for something goofy and not really related, dogs parking a Subaru:

<----- He is 4 now.
It's not the easiest to handle 2 80lb dogs in my small 2.2 CL though!
How unreasonable would it be to buy a car with a manual transmission when I've never driven a manual? I looked at some videos on youtube and it doesn't seem that hard. My brother said he would teach me too since he's driven them all his life.
I'm liking the Mazdaspeed3 > Mazda3 right now because it's faster, and not that much more expensive.

Its really not hard to learn as long as you have average coordination. After the 1st 20 mins it just becomes muscle memory. I remember when I was 17 and I bought my 1st 99 CL 5 spd, my dad made me sit on a hill practicing 1st gear for almost an hour. After that, I could drive the car on my own pretty seamlessly. I'd def say go for it, those little MS3's are nice, fun cars
I know you're married and everything but... why does the wife care so much? She's got the Xterra, right? Shouldn't this decision be 99% yours?
If you haven't yet, check out soggyrice's videos on youtube, he's got absolutely everything you need on driving a manual transmission car.
And let me reiterate that I think you should take at least one professional manual driving lesson if you don't want to scare the salesman/owner of a car you're looking at.
As far as actually driving manual, as long as you know as much as you can about the theory, my best piece of advice would be to take your time and go slowly. The only real pain about manual transmissions is getting going. Once you've engaged first, it's all fun and games from there.
You probably know this, but when downshifting from speed, DON'T FORGET TO REV-MATCH! My friend recently got a Mustang GT 5speed, first manual car. Slowing down for traffic on the highway, down from 5th to 2nd, engaged at probably around idle speed. That was scary.

I did find a course in Atlanta that offers training for driving a manual. I don't plan on purchasing a car until December, so I have plenty of time. I also may keep my CL to help transition into the manual. CL has property taxes paid for until June, so won't incur any extra cost.
If she doesn't like the giant smiley face current version of the MS3 (which isn't quite as apparent in black, by the way), you may want to see if she likes the last generation better.

Can your brother or someone with a manual show you and let you try it out? First just get used to the feel of the pedal and shifer interaction and feel without having the car started, then find a nice, open area.

My suggestion is go for the CR-V if you want comfort for your dogs. Would be nice if you took the Honda Element into consideration also, if dog comfort is what you are looking for.
Bought the car Friday, but it was being used by Mr. Nalley (owner of 13 dealerships in Atlanta). He had the option of driving any car and chose the TSX Wagon.
He returned the car Saturday, which is when I picked it up. It had 600 miles on it, but I got All Season Floor Mats, Cargo Tray, Front/Rear Splash Guards, and the Back-Up Sensors for free.
I am coming from a 97' 2.2 CL, and while I loved that car, this one blows it away. Everything is really nice, and I'm glad I got the Tech Package. Will be babying this car for many, many years!

Not allowed in yet. Want to buy the cargo liner, which covers the trunk/backseats and sides in the rear. It's removable and washable!

Want to detail it, tint the windows and then I'll paint the fog lights. Was just thinking about painting the fog lights an hour ago. Was doing some research on what to get to detail the car. Will look into the leathermasters product, thanks!

Very nice pickup. what did you wind up paying, if you don't mind?
And agree with everyone else's suggestions. And I noticed you left the blue plastic covers on the metal accent strips on the hatch bottom. Clear plastic seat covers are in your future....
