Help with HID Decision
Help with HID Decision
I purchased a 2013 Honda Accord Coupe EX-L V6 for my daughter. I want to install a very good HID kit. I found three brands I'm going to choose from, Denso, Matsushita and Philips. Does anyone have any experience with any of these. Also, looking to do either a 5000K or 6000K bulb. From the pictures I've seen on the web, these two bulb sixes offer up the best brightness. Anyone have experience with the two bulbs? I know the 6000K bulb is very common and made by many manufacturers. The 5000K not so much. Any good/great manufacturers of this bulb? Thanx.

Question for you... do you want to do this the right way, or do you want to do this the cheap way? I'm asking b/c technically you should only be putting HID headlights in housings made for HIDs. I am not sure off-hand, but if the Accord did not come with projector headlights you're putting HIDs in a Halogen headlight, which means a ton of glare for on-coming drivers.
If that's the case, I'd go a full retro-fit from the The Retrofit Source. They use top quality parts and their service is great. I have a set on my FJ and will be doing my wife's Jeep as well and nothing but good things to say.

Why do you want 5000k or 6000k bulbs? A typical stock HID bulb is around 4300k and the further you deviate away from that, the less light output you actually get.
On the left is the kelvin temperature, on the right is luminescence:
4300K = 3200lu
6000K = 2900lu
8000K = 2450lu
10000K = 2200lu
12000K = 1800lu

I have 5000k HID and like them. IMO, they offer the purest white while OEM 4300k is slightly more yellow. Newer OEM LED headlights are typically rated at 5500k from what I read online since it's the closest color temperature to daylight.

I plan on doing it the right way and doing a full retrofit. I plan on spending at least $300 for a kit. Just not sure for which kit. It's difficult to find a 5000K bulb. I found out that the low beams are projectors, which is very good news.

theretrofitsource.com has everything you would need, you can normally find some coupon codes if you google it too. If the headlights have a projector, it'll probably be good enough with a drop in HID kit, I'd stick with 4300-5000K. If it's a normal headlight I'd pop them open and throw in an HID projector.
most of the newer cars that came with Projector but without HID do not have the glare problem with aftermarket HID.
I have seen plenty of newer Camry, Accord, Sonata and other cars that have aftermarket HID but they seem like stock. Their cut off is sharper than some of the cars that came with HID.
I say just go with the regular HID kit and try it first before you do a full retro. But make sure you adjust the aiming accordingly.

I'd go with a 5k kit from The Retrofit Source.
No need to do a whole retrofit as the newer Accords already have projectors. Just test it out as is, and see how the glare is. If it's horrible, then swap out the halogen projectors or some good HID projectors
