Headwinds?
Headwinds?
Went to the strip yesterday for the first time and thought my times would be better than they were. The weather was warm so I know that costed me a little but there was a strong headwind.
I'm curious how much a 20-30mph headwind would effect 1/4 times.
I know, kind of a boring topic but I'm just frustrated with my times.
Thanks

There are some many variables that affect a quarter mile times (temp, barometric pressure, humidity, wind, driver, car...). Has anyone else that's a consistent racer driven your car and set a time? What did you run? A good run for a CL-S with headers should be around 14.5.
Found this on another forum.
"The 1/4 mi. speed was based on again a SE-R classic with a curb weight of 2600 lbs. and a 150 lb. driver. I have verified the 1/4 mi. speed with the car in stock, +intake & exhaust, + ECU but not with the header. I have the header but need to install. In regards to 1/4 mi. speed and times, you must note if there is a headwind or a tailwind. A 5 mph head wind can knock off 1 mph on your trap speed. To give you an example of how wind affects trap speed, my car will do 15.5 @ 89.3 mph +/- 0.3 mph with no wind and at an ambient temp of 60 F. This has been repeated a few times at 3 different drag strips. With a 10 mph tail wind, I have turned a 15.38 @ 91.30 mph. Going from 89.3 mph to 91.3 mph would indicate that a 7% increase in horsepower had occurred. In reality nothing changed - just the wind!"

A 2011 BMW 335i Dinan S3, by the books runs a 0-60 mph 4.3, quarter mile in 12.8. I think his is an '09 335 with mods that have bumped the hp up a bit. A 2009 stock is 300 hp (crank), while a 335 Dinan is 408 hp. With all his mods, I'm thinking a 12.9 isn't bad as that's a 400 hp BMW 335 time.
Thanks for the responses guys and ya that was me with the dragstrip thread. It's unfortunately become a new hobby but probably not a good one!
I was cutting awesome 60s in my 4 runs, all from 1.62 to 1.7 and my 1/8th times were 7.8-8.0 with 88-90mph.
My 1/4 times were 12.4 to 12.7 and traps from 109 - 112, im fbo and I feel my times are lower than the a car with similar mods.
Im an xi so I know about drivetrain loss and weight but Im definitely losing a lot on the second 1/8th.

I don't know, Im just a little frustrated about the lack of top end.

You can search 335i Dinan quarter mile or 335i bolt on's and most 335i's are running in the 13's. You have a respectable mid 12 sec which looks really good to me.

Nice numbers. I wouldn't throw them out of bed
I'm at 12.7x & 108 ish. Weight is a killer!
Tracks are different, days & weather are different. Just try to best your times when you go. Maybe some of your mods moved the power band in favor of low or mid range.

I'm def not complaining about mid 12's, I know thats solid but I just feel like I constantly leave time on the table. Oh well, guess I'll have to wait a few more weeks till I get to try again.
