Has anyone ever taken a Defensive driving course to erase points?

I have 2 points on my license and am in the process of looking for a new job in the auto industry. I had a job set up at infinity but they said the HR deparment could not higher me for insurance reasons. They said my license was bad so i got a bstract and it shows a failure to wear seat belt , careless driving (2 points) and 2 accidents one which i was at fault. My question is if i take the coarse will my 2 points get wiped off my license and how long would it take untill the 2 points get taken off my license?
I am in the process of looking for a new job and if alot of high end dealers are that strict then I am screwed!!! BTW I am in NJ..
If anyone has any input on the situation it would help greatly!

I can only offer you the way it works in Edmonton, Canada.

Throughout the years I've had to take a defensive driving course twice in order to keep my license. It would need to be done before the NEXT violation was paid, therefore reducing the amount of demerit points prior to the points from the last ticket being applied.

Basically spending a Saturday afternoon with a bunch of other lead foots who are there for the same reason. After the course was completed, you proudly received your "certificate" and immediately stood in line at the licensing office. Once submitted, the points (either two or three) were removed immediately.

There is a difference in points from the DMV that affects your insurance and your civil/criminal record ( it shows all violations) an employer can obtain. To some employees, it doesn't matter how many points you have, but your actual driving record. Everyone knows that you can take an eight hour class (in class or online) to reduce points, but someone still may not feel comfortable having your drive their high end cars everyday... your still a risk!

Yeah thats what I am worried about... I think it would look good though them seeing I had 2 points but cared enough to take care of it.. Before getting denied this job cuz my 2 points I though I had a GREAT driving record compared to alot of other people I know!! I never though 2 points would be High Risk, but who knows?

It's 8 hours and around $70.00, so it can't hurt to take it.

In New York.. I paid someone 75 bucks and I didn't have to go take the course and they sent me the certificate in the mail. They don't erase pre-existing points on your license, only subsequent offenses. But it still reduces your insurance premium slightly.

Q: How long do points stay on my license?
A: The short answer is 18 months for DMV and 39 months for insurance purposes. However, if 18 months has elapsed and you still have another open ticket which you received within the same 18 months as another, the older points won’t drop off until the newer summons is completed.
