Has anyone ever seen this BMW?

I saw this for sale here in Japan and I was wondering if anyone had seen this before?

Apparently, there's a company here that takes engines from BMW (1.9L through 3.0L) and shoehorns them into these "retro" bodies and sells them from about $50 large through $100K. The interior is from an early model Z3, so no I-drive to worry about.

Here's the link for the company: http://www.duval.co.jp/

They make three models, but the third one is straight out of the fugly catalog. I thought I'd seen it all.

I honestly have no idea what car that is, nor the exact engine code, but it seems like that company does kit cars. They custom design a chassis, then manufacture it, then plop a BMW inline-6 in it.

EDIT: Actually it looks kind of like a Z3 conversion. If you look at the door and quarter panel, it looks like custom flared fenders and qp's.... and they just kept the inline-6 in there.

I read that the body is FRP, and it's supposed to be like an old Mercedes 300SL. I mean, it looks a bit weird, but OK I guess. The one I pulled from a Japanese site was listing for $60 large. Ouch.

I was thinking that too...headlights, grille, bumper, etc look like they're taken from a mid 50s M-B 300SL

In this: http://www.duval.co.jp/download/rts.pdf

I think you have to add 52K yen to replace the mirror with a 50 buck metal one...

If they would get rid of those awful chrome accents on the side it'd be a pretty unique and attractive car.

Instead it's just bad.

As someone else pointed out it's a converted z3....

look at the side mirrors location and the door shape...

they left the doors alone in the conversion except they did change the actual side mirrors.

The side mirrors from the Z3 are standard, and the other types are optional. Now, if you paint this in a dark blue, I think it would look OK, but not for me.
