Half Power

I have an old '87 Integra SE and over the last few months it occationally only has about half it's power. After stomping the accelerator a few times it will free up and run normal. Something is sticking... any ideas?

Thanks, Jim

Wrong forum.. but I would guess intake. You need to give us more particulars. In the mean time you can open up your intake and look at the throttle body. If you can, take a look at it with your hood open or have a buddy press on the gas to see the butterfly valve opens up.. if it looks dirty and gunked then I would remove it and clean it up or at least deep creep the t/b & IM. It could be several things especially with an older car.. give us more details about the maintenance history and more detail. Once you feel like the power is back does it stay that way? for how long? etc.. etc..
Any noises? leaks? what regular maintenance do you do to it.. etc..

I bought it new and have replaced just about everything on it at least once. My regular maintenance is just the oil, filter and plugs etc. The only leak is oil drips from bottom of the timing belt cover... I will replace the cam seals when I do the next belt.
After I get the power back it lasts for the rest of the time it's running that day. (My wife normally drives it... but so slow that she wouldn't notice the problem.)
ps. I'm new... what forum should I be using? Thanks

I had a 9` civic hatch that had an issue like this...very low power and bogging when I would try and give it gas. I changed the spark plug wires and that fixed it. Just an idea?

The RSX side would be the closest.. There's very knowledgeable members here (3G TL) though.. I would register and search clubintegra[dot]com.. there will be more specific responses there.

btw.. it sounds like the throttle body / cable. I would deep creep it and check / adjust the cable.. run some seafoam / b12 through the tank.. maybe seafoam the oil as well then oil change followed by tune up depending on when you last performed each..

i would check the tension on the throttle cable. I would also use throttle body cleaner and clean it out. BUT i would put in the old plugs or get new ones, since you will blacken the ones that are in there from using the throttle body cleaner.
