I am by no means a pro behind the wheel, but I'll take my 6-spd TSX any day of the week, because I like the idea that I have at least some sort of control over the car.
When this car hits the streets, I'll look, may even stare, but I won't cream my shorts like others will

for those who are not impressed by the looks etc...i can see where your coming from...we will see what your opinion is within a year when we see them laced in colored weave CF, exhaust, upgraded turbos, and of course some nice HRE rims.

Gimme all that speed, and hopefully an engaging driving experience, with the looks of a g-series coupe, and I'd love it. But its looks just don't match its performance.
Again, no offense guys!!!

I just think its sad that Nissan goes out and makes such a fantasticly fast car that is really the new bargain of the century and so many people here seem to have such a visceral dislike for it. Imagine the GT-R but with a BMW or Porsche badge. All of you guys would be lauding it for its amazing performance and incredible value. But no, its just a Nissan so it sucks right? Hell, I wish to God Honda/Acura had the balls and gumption to build something like this. We sit around and whine and complain that the car manufacturers don't build anything for the enthusiast. Well there it sits staring you in the face and all you can say is "meh." I just don't get it. Since when did exterior looks trump incredible performance???

In every single Gran Turismo & Forza game since the very first ones, I bought almost every R32/R33/R34 variant they had in the game. Not to mention a few 300ZXs, G35Cs/350Zs and Silvias/240s along the way.... so that pretty much squashes your anti-Nissan theory. I'm surprised myself that I don't love the new GT-R.... but then again, ITS UGLY!! I've NEVER liked the styling of the new GT-R, from the time when the concept was shown til now.
Every body panel and surface on the car from the quarter panel forward is UGLY. The whole car looks bloated, I don't like the blacked out grill in the front, not feelin the headlights, don't like those weird contours in the lower corners of the front bumper, I hate the roofline, don't like the whole hood/front end shape. I especially hate the RX-8 influence of the bulging fenders, and its done particularly poorly on the GT-R. The whole car is a mish-mash of unlike shapes that doesn't flow together well AT ALL. I happen to like the interior a lot though, which most people don't like at all.
I would say a car's styling is one of the first and foremost things that people care about. Not of the utmost importance, but when you see the car in person, you don't see the engine under the hood or the numbers on paper or the performance. What you see is the styling.

I guess what I was trying to get at in my previous post is that with all the electronic control features, there just doesn't seem to be any passion behind the GT-R
I never really got into the whole Skyline love affair, but it seems that Nissan killed the Skyline heritage when they debuted the PS3 I mean GT-R. I may be wrong with this statement...
It seems like anyone with a week's worth of driving school lessons would blow everyone away at a track day, there's just something wrong with that.
For the same price, I would take a Porsche Cayman S with a manual transmission and have every bit as much fun as I would in the GT-R, if not more.
The GT-R is an incredible machine, no doubt about that, but that's it. It's a machine with no love for the driver other than giving him/her that ability to gloat at the track. And it's butt fugly

I will have to defend the GTR with this point; How do you know the GTR isn't fun to drive or doesn't have soul without actually testing one? If you don't like the looks or weight, that's understandable.

A sportscar such as the GT-R needs to be more than fast. There is passion/love for Ferraris, Lambos and Porches, I just don't see that happening with the GT-R.

Exactly! A fun to drive car, at least to me requires a few things, first of all a manual transmission. Secondly, it can't be heavy, I have yet to drive a heavy car that excites me. I'll take a lighter weight car with a manual transmission any day of the week over a heavy car with automated manual. There is an intangible feeling about driving that is not directly related to speed, yes a car needs enough performance to keep you entertained. If your always looking for the fastest your chasing a moving target, today its the GT-R, who knows what around the corner, while a fun to drive car remains fun to drive regardless of what else is out there.
I've owned the little brother to the GT-R, a 07 G35X, with its AWD system its probably as close to the GT-R as you can get right now. While I didn't dislike the car, its thrill wore of quickly and was never fun to go for a spirited ride on a back road. I put 18k miles on the car in a year, I have a pretty good idea of what its capable of and by the end of the first year I couldn't wait to get rid of it, it was not a drivers car.

I love the fact so many people don't like it for either being to technologically advanced or because of the looks. It just means those who do like it and would appreciate it will have a better shot at getting one someday since there won't be as great a demand for it.
I have to laugh at the reference to how it's not a pure sports car like a Ferrari, Lambo or Porsche due to the fact it doesn't have a manual and because of the technology in it. Funny how those other cars are all being made with auto/paddle shifters and have sophisticated launch control in them now. Hmmmmmm.
I've also noticed people love to adopt the opinions of test drivers/auto reviewers as their own. The car doesn't have a soul, the car does all the work for you, blah blah blah. Which mag or video did you steal that opinion from? Until someone actually test drives one (in person and not on a freaking video game ) what you think you'll experience driving it, until then, doesn't mean jack.
You don't like the looks, good enough for me, but stop talking about the experience driving it because it's all hearsay.

^ Well said...
I can understand someone not liking the looks but the complaints about weight make no sense. That weight doesn't seem to hurt the car's acceleration or handling (going by the reviews thus far).

I think the technology is amazing, I think the performance is biblical, and I'm not hating the "king," but based on the reviews and the last 10 years of my life driving and working on virtually ever car on the road this car won't be in the "fun to drive" category. As good as nissan has done with this car, even they can't break the laws of physics.
Not to mention the exterior, nor the interior excite me, for $70k I want more then numbers. The GT-R does not excite the motorist prior to driving the way most legendary cars do. Not to say the GT-R doesn't have a following because it does and I can understand why, but to many(myself included) buying a car like this is an emotional experience. Emotion involves a lot of intangibles that one cannot define for another, and to me this car does not satisfy that emotional itch.

I don't think anyone here is saying it can't perform, it's obvious it can. And it's obvious that this car outperforms anything in it's price range, and WELL above it.
But, in that same issue, C&D drives the M3 sedan 4.1 to 60. Pretty damn good for a sedan of that size & weight. I personally would prefer the M3 over the GT-R. I cannot give a reason that would make anyone understand other than I think I would find the driving experience more to my liking in the M3.
Odds are I will never get a chance to drive either one of these cars. If I did, I may change my tune. All I have to go on is what is written in magazine's and on a-zine.

Saw a vid of GT-R against other GT-Rs (R32, R33, R34 modified) on Hot Version and the stock R35 ran great. Even though it wasn't able to beat the 600HP R33 and R34, it was only barely behind it.
Also Mine's already made an aftermarket computer for the R35 which supposively gives more of a sporty driving feel.

If it had the entire front clip, doors and roof line of a G37, it would rip a hole right through my pants every time I saw it..... but with the way it looks now, it makes me go limp

The GTR is not THAT bad looking of a car....I think the body panels are extremely clean cut and I love the C pillar design. The rear end and valance look demonic...The only gripe I have about the design is the front end, in which case I would've made it more aggressive to fit the personality of the car. Its far from ugly though...
