Though ironically I'd take wagyu over Ruth Chris....

You must have mistaken that for a GT-R. After all, it's just a high performance Mustang.

Getting a little defensive here? While saying the '13 GT500 is simply a high performance Mustang might be a slight understatement, it's still reasonably accurate. While I'd love to own the GT500, I'd take a GT-R over it any day.

Nope, not defensive at all. It's just funny to me how people don't recognize the R&D that goes into producing a Shelby. It's not just dropping a big motor in a Mustang body. But everybody is entitled to their opinion.

Not defensive at all? You sure could have fooled me. When did someone say that all Ford did was drop a big motor in a Mustang body? You're countering an argument that no one is making.

No one said it explicitly. It's being implied that a Shelby is simply a "fast mustang".

The GT500 IS unique in many respects. I don't think anyone's arguing it's a mundane base model Mustang. I, for one, love the GT500. All else equal, would I take the GT-R over the GT500? Yes, for several reasons, not the least of which is the sophisticated AWD system that lets the car handle in a way the GT500 can't. But, that's not everyone's preference. If we all liked the same thing, there would be no variation at all in product lines; where's the fun in that?

To be fair, I think you intentionally danced on the nerve, not just touched it.

Oh, and a SRT-4 is a (crap) Neon!

+1 an SRT-4 truly is a neon with just a turbo motor in it.

I think in the next iteration of the Mustang they need to get away from this whole "it has more horsepowers" nonsense that is too reminiscent of the 60s "go faster in a straight line" mentality and make the GT500 about being better at everything than a Mustang GT.

Then it becomes truly special and not "They masked fundamental problems with the car by throwing 660hp at it to justify the price."

IMO of course.

^ I don't think the Mustang really has that problem. This is only from what I've read in car mags, but it seems to actually handle really well and be a good all-around sports car. Maybe it's the stigma that needs to be shaken off.

I would never think twice, GTR all day. Mustangs all look the same to me, nothing special IMO . When someone starts throwing insults and starts referring to age, they are losing the internet "battle" , they just have nothing else to say.

Wow! Thanks for all the great responses. I think I will plan on keeping the GT-R for a while. I can't really have both, my wife wouldn't really be too on board with me having two cars she can't drive. (She can barely drive stick and is scared she'll hurt the GT-R). She loves the Vagon and I am considering picking up one as a DD and dumping my truck. I have read Neuronbob's whole V thread again and one of the big things that bothers me about the V is the fuel range. I'd drive this thing 20k a year as a daily and I am used to getting 550 mi per tank versus less than 250 for a V. I am really blessed to be able to have these options. Adding a fourth car to the fleet is kind of silly and while it wouldn't be much of a financial strain one can always save-invest more.

Anyway since we're discussing the GT500, i just received the Aug issue of C/D in which it's featured (vs Camaro ZL1). There's no question, it looks as though this is the most potent version of the Mustang ever:

0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds
0-100 mph in 7.9 seconds
1/4 mile in 11.8 seconds @ 125 mph

So, it definitely has the goods vs the stock GT-R in a straight line.

If you are comparing it to the 2011, then yes. The 2012+ are faster...

Id look at the ZL1. In the latest C&D comparo the ZL1 was picked the winner over the stang. It tied it on the streets of willow even though it was down 100hp. Being the motor it is it wouldnt take much to get close to the same hp numbers the stang is offering.
