Got pulled over tonight...a poorly placed sign was involved
I was giving a friend a ride back to his car tonight in the Santa Fe and missed my turn. So I made the next possible left. As I made the turn, a NO LEFT TURN sign that was hidden behind some trees on the left side of the road became visible. Then I looked in my mirror and saw the cop. He followed me of course and I got pulled over. About 6 weeks ago I applied for custom license plates. Not wanting to take the current ones off, I left them on and put the temporary tag in the rear window. Big mistake. The old plates fell out of the system so he ran those instead of the temp and they came back not in the system.
I came this close >< to getting a ticket for 'failure to obey a traffic control device' and he told me to get home and take the old plates off right away. I did this so now the car has the temp tag in a plastic bag on the rear plate bracket. Now I'll probably get pulled over for failure to display a front plate. Gay....
But on the upside, I'm glad I didn't get a ticket. I'm less than a month away from my 5-year anniversary of getting my license (6.14.2003) and it's my personal goal to go those 5 years without a ticket of any sort. I thought I'd blown it.

Glad that the cop was cool and you got off without getting a ticket. Even though I don't doubt you couldn't see the sign until it was too late, that would have been hard to argue in court. Maybe the cop realized that it was impossible to see as well.

Although if you get a ticked and the sign is obscured by bushes or something, all you have to do is take a picture of the obscured sign and take it to court. They are going to let you off.

Portland has a ton of signs that are obscured by foliage. Its ridiculous.
I've noticed Beaverton's finest are out in force this week.. they're all over the place.
