Unhappy Got Pulled Over Today

Hey guys. Today on my way home from school and to work I got pulled over. The officer said he had me going 38 in a school zone, which is 20mph. Normally this area by my school is a 35 zone, and apparently I was two minutes late to beat the light. This was my first time being pulled over, and quite frankly, it scrared the shit out of me. I have illegally tinted windows, no front plate, and am a 17 year old male. Even with all of this going against me the officer came back, said today is your lucky day, drive safe. I am just grateful I didn't get a ticket, would have been 4 points and $280. What a good day.

Here's some advice: When you get pulled over, roll all the windows down and place both your hands on the steering wheel before the officer gets out of the car.

I didn't have my hands on my steering wheel, more on my head as in "oh shit, I'm screwed", but I did roll down all of the windows, everything was, "Yes, sir." I tried my hardest to come across as a decent guy, which seems to have paid off.

at night also turn on the dome light. And dont go reach for the reg and insur. Wait till he asks you for it and just say its in the glovebox and you didnt want to be reaching around earlier. Most cops find that to be respectful.

Well done. You didn't BS him, you were sincere, and didn't have attitude. Trust me, all the cops I know say that nothing pisses them off more than pulling someone over (especially a younger guy), who immediately cops a 'tude like he did nothing wrong.

It also helps to have a smoking hot chick in your car too, that has gotten me out of 2 blatant speeding tickets. Thanks Laura!!!

Also, ask him/her to shine the flashlight into the glove box (or wherever you have the paperwork) when you open it...BEFORE you reach into it. Puts them at ease and shows them that you don't have any concealed guns or knives.

schools zones are tough down here It's 15mph. $300 fine for anything over 20mph in a school zone.

i used to say state highway patrols are the hardest to get out of.
but i was in my beater i was 10 over 65 in a 55. lost my registration, and insurance card(but the tags are current and legal and it's registered to me) he let me off with a warning .I gotta get new registration and tags next month. I haven't been driving it due to that. and he came over this hill i looked over at my g/f she was with me at the time i'm like if he spins around i'm fucked. sure enough he did.
time before that i got pulled over by state that was a 200 dollar ticket for 60 in a 45.
like my uncle is the the next town over Police Chief. i've done 70 in a 35 and he's told me you know you need to slow down the next time i see him.
county sheriff- cause i'm a firefighter i know almost all of em so i have to be really fucking up before they pull me over around here.

As a rule I ALWAYS turn the car off when pulled over, and Yes/no Sir (or Mam). Show them with some respect and they usally do the same for you..

Nothing like a little and to make the cop forget all about why he pulled you over!

Good job, continue to be courteous, respectful, and polite and if anything the cop will give you a break on something, or better yet not write up a ticket at all like your situation.

I got out of an amazing ticket once by being polite and careful like the others said... engine off, windows down, keys on dash, hands on the wheel. Yet I didn't have any photo ID (lost my wallet), was speeding @ 60 in a 35 at night (cop estd. 50 though), and had a drink a couple hours earlier. All I said was "hello officer" and then let him do the talking, asked before reaching for something, had a genuine but not pathetic sob story, and I was nice yet seemed sad about the whole ordeal. In the end I walked away with a warning instead of a minor + DUI + driving without a license + God knows what else

By the way, drinking and driving is stupid.... I never realized how serious the penalties would be until that officer pulled me over and I had a couple minutes to convince myself I was screwed.

I don't live in L.A. I'm not going to act like I live in L.A. when I get pulled over.

So no I won't be turning on the dome light putting my hands on the wheel...

While I'm always respectful it doesn't always help. Just like with ANY job there's always someone who works there that's a jerk. And some people become police officers because they enjoy control... So when you get pulled over they like to make sure you know *they* own you for that 5-10m they have you on the side of the road. I mean really; so what; let them have their 5 minutes of glory; meanwhile be as nice as you can be to drive them crazy.

I've only ran into one jerk of a cop so far here in Kansas. Again it's expected... people have bad days, and not everyone is nice. When I lived in Chicago I ran into Jerk cops more often; but it wasn't that they were all jerks. It's just they are use to dealing with complete assholes/idiots all day long. So it eventually wears on them...

Really when you think about it; cops in the big cities have hard jobs...

You're a fucking idiot. Speeding in a school zone with no plate and illegal tint.

I wish you had gotten the ticket.

Good behavior doesn't mean shit. The cop has decided to give you a ticket or not before he even pulls you over. The only luck you'll get would be if there was an officer down call at the same time.

Most of the dick cops i have come across were younger guys. I think some of them feel they have to prove to the world that their a badass. The older cops tend to be much cooler and just want to make it home every night. (This was all in the DC metro area) But then again there are exceptions.

I value your opinion. The area I got pulled over in doesn't have a school zone sign except five blocks behind where I was. The end of the school zone is maybe 100ft in front of where I was. It's a highschool, it was 2:02, I don't think when school gets out at 3:00 for most people I run much of a risk hitting anyone. Either way, I'll be sure to stay at or under the speed limit in this area from now on.

One should never speed but especially so in residential areas. Last I checked highways like the 405 didn't have a school zone

While I don't disagree, if I have old women in Buicks passing me, that means it's time to speed up. On most roads I try to stay 5-9mph over to speed limit to go with the flow of traffic.

I did 35 in a school zone thats 25 normal 20 during school. The cop didn't even come out and get me. I don't get cops in Delaware I've speed by them a few times and they never have gone after me.

Whats with the bashing though? I thought school zones were 25mph, plus when no children are present its 35mph I believe, not sure. Usually going around 15-20 when there are kids, but still. We were all young once, and you're full of shit if you haven't bent the law while you were a teenager. Driving is one aspect of the law I correctly follow 99% of the time. That 1% includes taking a corner faster than the recommended speed, hauling ass from an on/off-ramp when I'm bored and the road's clear and whipping it around a u-turn in a cloud of smoke. I used to drive like a dumbass before, but getting pulled over (all for fix-it tickets) have set me straight when it comes to driving properly. OP.... don't just think you were lucky, take it as a learning experience and don't make the same mistake again.

Most people grow out of it. If they don't.... that's a shame. At least he didn't post a story bragging about how he kept up with an M3 through rush-hour traffic. Some people out there never consider being nice to a cop.... make their day easier and they might just go easier on someone else, like the OP and me. Imagine you were a janitor, and you noticed that people intentionally litter when you're around. Wouldn't that piss you off even more?

you do but when you get it back the points are still on your record. Now hardly ever speed. And if I do it's no more than 5mph on normal roads and 10 mph on the interstate.

unfortunately under certain circumstances respect doesnt guarantee you respect back... i know since i have been pulled over for merely being on the road late at night repeatedly by cops in the same town. i know its a wrongful stop, but i also know there's no use in resisting because cops can find any excuse to stop/ticket/and on rare occassions even arrest you. however, i will stress this much; turn your car off keys on the dash hands on the wheel respond with "yes/no/etc. officer" and always inform the cop when you are reaching either into your pocket, glove box, etc. AND if you have a pba/fob card or what have you, always be humble about presenting it such as "officer i was told to show you this if i was stopped if it helps at all" etc.

I hate the fire hydrant zones with curbs that aren't marked-- they are tickets waiting to be issued.
Fortunately, most of the urban LA area has red-painted curbs demarcating the hydrant zones.

I got pulled over yesterday for the first time in my life and i was scared out of my mind i got lucky because the cop let me off with a warning because he said i didnt stop at a stop sign and i cut him off on the other hand i stopped at the stop sign and he was going so slow that he looked like he was letting to go in front of him so he gave me a ticket for my tints instead of the moving violation.
