Got to watch it at home. Not you stayed on Rt 9 at the gas station at the beginning, so noticed you took it up to 84. Pretty cool. My wife used to live in that area... closer to the river.

This should be very interesting competitor to the GoPro2.

Both have their strengths and weaknesses, but the Sony looks like a great little cam. If you get the WiFi version of the Sony, you can use the free app for Android. You can wirelessly control the camera, change settings, and transfer files to your phone using it. I think theres one for iOS devices as well.

Im tempted to pick it up, but there aren't many high speed motorsports videos out there for me to form an opinion on. I really wish the OG GoPro had a mic jack, because that would hold me over. The HD2 does, and so does the Sony. Im thinking that no matter what I upgrade to, I need to get an external mic to get acceptable sound. The GoPro just distorts way too much and the verdict is still out on the Sony.

Control Your GoPro Camera From Your iPhone With New Official App
Go a GoPro HD Hero2? And an iPhone, iPad or (ahem) Android device? Then head over to the App Store right now, because — with a new free app — you can use one to control the other.
No, the camera can’t be used to Tweet or make phone calls — it’s the other way around. The GoPro app connects to the camera via Wi-Fi and pipes back a live preview, plus info on remaining battery life and SD card capacity.
What’s the point? Well, the GoPro cameras are made to go where even the intrepid iPhone can’t (or at least shouldn’t). Whether the rugged sports-cam is up on your skydiving helmet, or stuck out on the front fender of your speeding automobile, it is often handy to have a way to quickly check alignment or system status.
Or, with the live streaming, you could just drop the waterproof GoPro into the girls’ showers and… Well, you know.
Whatever you choose to do, you sicko you, this new app will make it easier. You just need to visit GoPro’s site to update your camera’s firmware to get

The WiFi app is finally out? I guess people have been waiting two or three months for it, and GoPro has been fairly quiet about its release date. According to their product page, the app is still not out... http://gopro.com/hd-hero-accessories/wi-fi-bacpac/
If anyone is curious about how the GoPro does being strapped to the bottom of vehicles... Well, I tried it out on our company truck and one of the busses:
(Please excuse the crappy editing haha.)

I just really hope the audio is better.
The WiFi remote is $80, but its included with the Black Edition.
Announced in San Francisco last night, GoPro claims the the Hero 3 is 30 percent smaller and 25 percent lighter than the old model. To top that off, the top-of-the-line Black Edition is capable of capturing video at up to 4K resolution—as long as you don't mind slowing recording down to 15 fps. Can't have it all.
That said, a faster processor in the camera allows it to capture lower-resolution footage at higher frame rates than in the past, and it offers 1080p60, 1440p48 and 720p120 modes for slow-mo situations. Lower-spec models are also none too shabby: the Silver packs an 11MP camera and can capture 1080p30 video, while the rather more humble White packs a simple 5MP camera. All three, though, do feature Wi-Fi.
Pre-orders have just kicked off, with prices standing at $400 for the Black Edition, $300 for the Silver and $200 for the White. That's keen pricing—and will probably help GoPro maintain its place at the top.

FYI, I have a contact who has an in with GoPro and happened to see him last night. I was informed that GoPro is getting ready to recall the Hero3 due to some lens issues (cracking, moisture, etc).
So if you were planning to buy a Hero3, may want to hold off a bit to see how this plays out...

I'm looking to maybe snag a holiday deal on a Hero2 or possibly Hero3. I see Amazon still has the Hero2 Motorsports at $249. Any other better deals out there or do you think there's a chance the price could drop closer to the holidays?

Anyone know where I get the wifi bacpac with remote for less than $100?
#188
Tell me, too.
BTW, Should I keep my Hero2 or upgrade to a Hero3 Black Series?
So far, I haven't seen any features that are so important to me that I should upgrade. I'd rather just buy a wifi bacpac and LCD screen for my Hero2.

^ I'm in the same boat as you. Camera specs are nearly identical. Only thing I want is wi-fi (or the LCD) so I can aim the camera. Probably go with the wi-fi on the Hero2 instead of upgrading to the 3...

Static Issue with GoPro Hero3 Silver Edition
So my sister was nice enough to get me a GoPro Hero3 Silver Edition (all the Blacks are sold out at all nearby Best Buys). Anyway, the camera has a bad static issue in the background whenever it is in the case. Anyone have this issue? Im attaching an example. From what I read, I think I have to return it. Anyone have any ideas??? Thanks guys.

Mine does the same thing, and only when I'm recording in the car.
While recording at home there isn't any static.
An external mic should solve the problem. I have a stereo mic I use for my PC but haven't purchased the accessory cord for the GoPro yet. Eventually I will give that a try.

Personally I would just buy the wifi bacpac for the Hero2 and down the road just add the Hero3 to the collection. Then,If I'm not mistaken, you can remotely control both if you want multiple video angles.

From what I read online, this is not normal and a defect in some units. I have a new Black edition on order at Best Buy and was able to return my Silver Edition pretty easily for this issue. I will let you know if my new unit has the same issue. You might want to return yours if I dont. Thanks for the input.
My window to return may be coming to a close but I guess it wouldn't hurt. Does Best Buy accept open returns on the GoPro?

I've had my Black Edition for three weeks or so. I also read someone returned and exchanged theirs three times and they all had the same result. I wonder if it is something else, such as a firmware issue.

^ I keep contempalting trading my GoPro2 for a 3. Honestly the only reason is the built-in WiFi. This way I can aim it using the screen on my phone before going out to race. I could also stream it to the TV in my trailer so if people are in the pit area they can watch the race. Seems like it would be a cool thing to have, and I'd rather have it built-in then spend the money to add it to a GoPro2...

The wifi does not reach that long so unless maybe you can open then cam and add an extra antenna booster or something the remote connection I was able to connect to using my phone was maybe 30ft away till the connection was dropped.
Unless I am missing something on how it works and maybe there is another feature on it to work. The video is also a bit behind to the point I would say about a 5sec delay and this was when I had the camera mounted on my back bumper and my phone up front with me in the car.
The wifi also kills battery really bad. From what I have read it seems you only get about 1hr with 1080 and wifi on. If wifi is important if I recall correctly you can get a much longer time with the 2 and the wifi back on it. The battery is the weakest part of the 3 it seems. Almost would have been better I think if they didn't make the camera any smaller so they could have put in a larger battery compartment.
The main reason I wanted the 3 and specifically the Black Edition was for the high frame rate you can do so I could do slow motion affects when making videos. The 720 120fps will be nice. I think it can do 1080 at 100fps as well.

Here is my little basic video I made last night just cause I wanted to test the sound quality. I think I had the camera a little close to the exhaust. It was probably only like 1-1.5ft away and I probably should have put it on the other side of the bumper as it might have recorded a bit much drone from being so close to the mic.
I also tied a tether inside the trunk to the suction cup mount as I was scared just using the suction cup even though it states that it has been tested up to 150mph. It makes me a bit uneasy not having a safety in place just as a precaution. I paid way to much to have lose it.
