Goodbye CL, Hello Touareg

Well, the time has come. I pick up an 04 Touareg with 24k miles this week. My CLS and I have had great times, but with 117,000 miles on it, its time to sell for what I can get and move on.

Treg Options: Nav, xenons, premium sound, rain sensing wipers, heated seats, sun roof, tire pressure monitors, sun shades...etc.

Does anyone have experience with a Treg... I hear they are great rides.

Sounds like a nice ride. Unfortunately, I think they have a lot of problems. Good luck though.

Beautiful looking car but I have heard they are plagued with small electronic gremlins. I also heard that VW navigation is pitiful.

Still a beautiful SUV. Congrats and good luck!

I've researched both the electrical issues, and the crappy nav.... From what I've read and who I've talked to, as long as all TSB's are addressed and repaired, the Treg doesn't have many other problems...(like the tranny I replaced twice in my CLS). The nav is a bit under par. CD based...etc, but I think it will do for how I use it. I never really look up POI's, I just use the realtime map and address look up.

I guess I'll see how I like it soon. That's one thing I love about buying a used vehicle. If I drive it for a month and hate it, I can sell it for the same price I bought it for!

Nice...although I like the V8's rear end much better with the sporty exhaust tips.

My sister's touareg has an electrical problem every other month. Its funny cuz her husband has a Range rover and its in the shop the rest of the time. Theyre a glutton for punishment.

When her Touareg decides to start and everything else is working too, it is pretty cool vehicle i must say.

Nice truck but Volkswagen can never get the electrical issues fixed throughout their whole product line.

I opted for the v6. It runs anywhere from 15-21mpg depending on driving. And I have the new 2b nav software coming to flash the nav and also have updated POI's and maps... Even thought that doesn't help the nav much, it will do.

I'm currently looking to sell my CLS privately. I'm thinking with Nav, TL Wheels, good tires, 2k in stereo, intake, springs....I'm going to try to get 9k out of it.

My co worker has one. He bought it while he had his CLS. It's his wife's car, & it's been problem free. It is a non nav version & has the V6. It does eat gas though.

My mom has one. When i'm in town, I always like driving it around. Its the V8, and yes, it does suck gas. But its pretty easy to drive easy on it and have it move without sucking gas. And the sucker mooooves when you want it to. The interior finish is really nice and there are plenty of compartments for things. The only problem she's ever had with it is that sometimes the glass hatch opens without her knowing it. (it doesnt open all the way, just unlocks), and it keeps the car from fully locking. Its annoying, yea, but nothing to fret about. The sound system is pretty bad though, I dont know if its the standard one or the upgraded one, but it has nav and a lot of companies make you get the upgraded sound package with nav? So, if you're an audiophile, i'd recommend going aftermarket. To be honest, there isnt an SUV out there that I like more than it. She had a GX470 before it, and its a bit too lux for its own good. The 'Reg seems a bit more bold and rugged. If you have any other questions or want me to take some pictures of anything in particular, PM me before I leave sunday night. Happy SUV hunting

I flew to ATL on Friday and picked up the Treg. The drive back was loooong, but enjoyable because I brought my brother in law out with me. The truck drives great, the features are awesome....I'm happy!

I got the V6 and the MPG looks like this so far:

Highway at 75- 19.5
City about 16

I'll talk some pics for y'all tonight.

My neighbor had a '04 Touareg... It was in the shop 7 times for various electrical problems. He has since sold it.

I have heard the '04 are notorious for problems. I hope you have better luck than he did.

a friend of mine had a V-10 5.0 literTDI diesel Touareg. That thing for SUV was AWESOME. It had tons of power, did decent on mileage(i think he got 18-20 mpg) plus it towed nicely. Only kicker was it was expensive as hell. He traded it like a year ago on a Ford Excursion Power Stroke. I know STUPID.

Congrats on the new ride. I didn't realize you got rid of the chrome rims on your CL. I saw it years ago in downtown Austin when I still had mine.

O' and, why can't this be your Avatar:?

Ex girlfriend..... And yeah, I've gone through a few sets of chrome 18's and 19's on my CL. The 04 TL wheels and tires I have on there now ride better than the most expensive 19's I ever had. But, you're right. It makes the car alot less recognizable.

I love it! Not my color of choice but I love the Toureg. I'm shopping in the same market but my gas mileage is important since I will be driving 100 miles a day. Keep us updated on everything!
