Of course I am a domestic truck fanboy, I own a domestic truck. This is an import board so I will struggle for any support.

That said, Toyota still scrapes the market... A bad ass truck is an HD with a Duramax and an Allison, not a truck engine making peak power at RPMs above the number listing on my GMs tach.

The new Tundra was designed in America with a prominent American team. It's built in Texas.

How many "domestic" trucks are actually built in Canada or Mexico?

Instead of picking on this kid's new truck, that he's probably pretty happy about getting, wouldn't a simple congratulations do? The debate between "foreign" and "domestic" trucks is never ending, and if he's happy with it, thats the thing that counts.

That being said-congrats on your new truck!

I like two things about the new Tundra:
1) The 5.7L is badass
2) The 6-speed Auto is badass

Other than those two points, I am not a fan.

warning him? i think you did more than just that. tundra seems like a great truck and maybe he doesn't need what the domestic trucks have to offer.

hope you share the new tundra with us or w/e you get.

Im sure it's a great truck... But if he is getting it as a "contractor vehicle" which he doesn't seem to be, domestic vehicles are more capable.

If I thought I wasn't going to be using my bed much I would have gotten a wrangler.

Your are one ignorant fanboi. There is nothing wrong with the Tundra and I'm sure it will be MORE reliable and durable than much of its domestic competition. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with a "Kia" - they built perfectly good cars. A Kia Sedona puts every domestic minivan to shame, as does the Kia Optima to many of its counterparts.

5.7L V8. 6 speed tranny. A real interior. Toyota reliability. All for under 25 grand. Nothing except the new GMT900 trucks can compete with that. Sorry to break the news to you junior, but the domestics no longer own the segment.

Exactly equipped Silverado vs. Tundra....
Loaded Crewmax Tundra 5.7L 4WD SB - $46,220
Loaded Silverado Crewcab 6.0L 4WD SB - $44,910

Price-wise, looks like a pretty even match to me and comes down to a personal (possibly brand) preference

Thats ridiculous. The guy I bought my truck from had a brand new 06 2500HD crew cab with Duramax and Allison loaded minus navi for 42K off the lot.

Thats MSRP on the 2007's. Invoice on the Silverado was about $4000 less and the Tundra was about $3500-4000 less (can't remember).

a stripper Tundra is 24095. Add in $900 for the 6spd/5.7 combo, and your at $24995. Yes, its a regular cab, but point being that a badass truck like the Tundra can be had for under 25k. Realistically though, plan on spending above 30k for a decently equipped Tundra. Either way, as you mentioned, its priced competitively.
