He bought it used and it had an existing noise. Turned out to be a piston ring land. The dealer said they would replace the piston but he opted to pay half for a crate motor. Let me put it this way, I have friend with sierras from 1992 and earler with over 150 on the clock, and the only engine problems are idler pullies which squeak, etc.

So heres the deal... The carfax was run and suggests a possible Odometer roll back. Maybe I just want to not believe it, but I believe carfax is wrong. Here is my reasoning

07/12/2001 64,697 Massachusetts -----> 06/22/2002 86,321 Massachusetts
Difference of 21,624 Miles over roughly 340 Days

06/22/2002 86,321 Massachusetts -----> 07/02/2003 155,030 Massachusetts
Difference of 68,709 Miles over roughly 375 Days

07/02/2003 155,030 Massachusetts -----> 08/03/2004 129,876 Massachusetts
Difference of -25,154 Miles over roughly 396 Days

08/03/2004 129,876 Massachusetts -----> 10/10/2005 146,572 Massachusetts
Difference of 16,696 Miles over roughly 452 Days

My reasoning is this, if you take out that anomaly of 155K miles, it follows a relativly stable pattern of 21.5K Miles a year, until the final year, at which time he had bought a new truck...

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated

He is claiming, and I must say I believe him(as you all can agree it fits the pattern), that the check was done at 105,XXX, not 155,XXX. He has reciepts to prove it.

In negotiations I have got him down to 5200, I am offering up a bit more than my original at 4900.

Again, your thoughts are welcome and appreciated.

Mike

P.S, Posting from work at gramparents, so don't expect me to respond until later tonight.

Today I took it to meineke, they quoted me at 1067 for parts, and another 400 for labor, so we didn't put a down payment on. The guy laughed and told us to check autozone, and also told us which things he had already replaced(plugs, wires, distributor cap) many of the parts. Anyway, all parts included, autozone only wants about 120, minus the steering box(seals are all I actually need, online the box is 150-190 new). It is funny though, I call autozone asking the price of the distributor cap(even though it's not needed), and they asked if it was the diesel one
