Getting new rides in the next week or two...
Long story short, our 05 toyota corolla was involved in a 3 car wreck with our car taking the biggest hit. Old lady doing about 55 rear ended us on the freeway and I hit the guy in front of me. Got a call from the adjuster only to be told it would be totaled because the damage exceeded the value of the car. So time to go car shopping. My wife is set on getting a Highlander Hybrid 4x2 and bless her heart she even suggested I sell the CL too! After arguing how I didn't want to get rid of my precious tafeeta, she pulled the "we have a growing family now" card on me! Nuts!!! So guess what I'll be riding in now? A friggin Yaris!?!?! The highlander will be our weekend car and the Yaris will be our commuter car. Ain't this a bitch?
Any input on these 2 cars would be appreciated esp from owners. thanks, -john

^Agreed. Tell her instead of a new Yaris, you will just get a '00-'02 used civic for under $8K and with the money saved start on a project car...

Call me nuts but I think the Yaris is a smart little car. I haven't sat in or driven one, but I have in the last Echo model before they got rid of it, and I assume the Yaris is the same deal. Everything was just plain simple and no nonsense, and I was surprised at how much room it had. If it's just a commuter car the lack of power shouldn't be an issue. Just think about how much money you'll save.

A yaris is a smart move indeed. I would recommend the Fit, but you can't even get one in my area. At least with the Yaris it'll be there and you can wiggle around the MSRP, can't say the same for the Fit.

The Fit looks cool. I guess anything would look good over a Yaris. Fit would look good dropped and on 16's or 17's. If there's a Honda dealer close to Toyota, i might go for a test drive.

You don't need a Yaris AND and SUV just for 1 kid....Whats wrong with her just getting a 4 door civic? I'm sure a civic will still have a better gas milage than a "hybrid" SUV, and I doubt the baby will be too big to fit into a 4 door.

yea a brand new car is really uneccesary
if shes set on the highlander, let her get that...that can be the baby mover, i really dont see the need for a yaris or any small econobox POS....get a nice used sedan or coupe with some mod potential....

yea, i'm definitely not getting a Yaris after talking to the fleet manager at Toyota and he had the nerve to laugh at me! He's like, "y'kno, I had to do a double take since you're driving a CL and going to a Yaris, I just had to laugh, it's not a manly car!" He's a friend of my wife and getting us a good deal on a highlander. Those things are hard to come by. He's been trying to locate one with our specs and he's only coming up with fully loaded models or non hybrid. We only need a basic 4x2 V6 with 3rd row seating.
I drove next to a Fit and damm, that thing is tiiiiiiiny!!! I'm really hoping I can find a nice civic or teg now!

As for the CL-S, we're keeping for a few more months until they find the Highlander hybrid we're looking for. It's running like shit tho. Need to change the shocks/struts, rear brakes, mounts. A lot of little things. The CL is starting to feel it's age with all the rattles and sqeeks so I'm actually happy to be in a new car again and don't have to worry about the tranny anymore. Just hope it goes to a good owner cuz it was a great car!
