Genesis V8 - How I Would Do It

Excuse the self-centered nature of this thread but I was up last night trying to figure out exactly how I would equip a V8 Genesis. Here's what I came up with:

Color: Black Noir Pearl
Interior: Jet Black Leather
Factory-Fitted Options: Technology Package

Modifications & Accessories
- Carpeted Floor Mats
- No Front Plate
- 20% window tint all around (except windshield)
- Custom Alcantara headliner colored to match factory material
- 3/8" drop with stiffer springs
- Debadge 'Genesis' and '4.6' logos. Retain Hyundai insignia on trunk lid and wheels.
- Michelin Pilot Sport Summer High-Performance Tires
- Cultural Trust License Plate (standard issue; not custom)
- Matte Black License Plate Frame (no inscriptions)
- Clear Mask door edges and inside door handle coves
- Custom Exhaust (remove resonators, custom vibrant mufflers, two tips per side) - Exhaust Clip Here

Personally....this is just perfect in my book. Now if I only had the money. Oh well...dreams are free.

Just wait a year and buy one used. Hyundai resale value tanks like no other.

vibrant muffler's sound really good. i had one on my coupe for a while, upgraded it to a stromung (Which does sound sexier) now my boss has my old vibrant on his coupe, sounds very good, actually sounds better then when it was in my coupe with my header's.

Personally I've never been a big rim guy. The factory wheels on the V8 will do just fine for me; baby needs new rubber, though; hence the Michelins.

This car would be a spoiled Garage Queen, weekend toy, not driven during winter or rain. You get the idea...

While this may be somewhat true, I wouldn't bank on this notion for too long. Wheels are in motion to change that.

Sounds surprisingly good! I wanna hear that car out in the open though, any clips? Cars sound better inside garages, though I'm sure it will also sound great outside. Would probably sound awesome with a catback and/or headers.

That car was custom-built by shops for Hyundai for the SEMA show in Vegas. I posted this video clip on Hyundai-Forums and the guy actually popped in and told us how the exhaust was set up. Kind of cool he stopped by.

I should get the equipment priced out in case I win the lottery ticket I bought tonight.

Whats the point of buying a cheap entry level luxury car and garaging it/making it a weekend toy? Its not a sports car... Its meant to be DD..

Not sure what book you're reading from but in mine $42,000 isn't cheap.

And that's before all the mods.

Carpeted Floor Mats - $100 (for all four)

No Front Plate - Free but the ticket is around $200 or so

20% window tint all around - $275/300 (ticket around $200)

Custom Alcantara Headliner - $100 sq. yard (do the math plus labor; probably $750 for the materials and installation)

3/8" drop with stiffer springs - $750 (I have no clue; ballpark figure)

Debadge 'Genesis' and '4.6' logos - Free

Michelin Pilot Sport Summer High-Performance Tires - $1,028 for four including mount & balance ($232 each + 1 hour labor = $100)

Cultural Trust License Plate - $35 per set

Matte Black License Plate Frame - $25/30

Clear Mask door edges and inside door handle coves - $250

Custom Exhaust - $1,000 to $1,500 (guess)

Grand Total: $46,740 - No guarantees, either. Most of those figures were guesses.

It's like people garaging their devilles for the winter.

I agree that $42,000 isn't cheap but a luxury Hyundai sedan that loses depreciation at the rate that it does is NOT a vehicle that is meant to be a "Sunday" driver. That car can be had for just a bit over 39K today and will lose about $15K in the first year/15K miles. In your case, it would have lost all that money collecting dust in the garage.

I don't see the point

Still doesn't seem very smart to me. These are the only circumstances I would garage a car/take it out on select weekends

1) Impractical, uncomfortable, unreliable for daily driving ( the Hyundai is a giant sedan with an emphasis on trunk space )

2) Fast enough to get me in trouble ( its really not that fast, and it probably handles like a boat )

3) Horrible off weather performance ( It is RWD but a decent set of snow tires and you're good to go. I see E550's on the road during the winter months so you should be fine )

4) Collectors item/rare car ( It is neither. )

Might as well just buy the supercharged V8 version of this car if you want something worthy of garaging

My thoughts exactly.

Although I don't think I could let an S55 or an S65 sit in the garage

It is considered to be a good value, so I don't think it'll sink that bad.

If they tank like all other Hyundai's they will be a steal in a year or two... assuming they are reliable, I imagine these will be expensive to repair.

More on topic, I like the Genesis, but for MSRP I'll pass way too many other cars that are proven and more my style then this luxury boat! But hey, we are all different.

It was featured in 0-60mag this winter.

^SICK! Still not going to be a "classic" to keep in the garage though.

I really like those wheels. The only thing I would really change is remove the H badge from the trunk. Otherwise the car is

I like the car, but that would definitely be a daily driver for me. I am not big on "garage queens" anyway.

While I agree that a Genesis sedan is not a "weekend car", I disagree with your reasoning.

Maserati.

Their resale value gets hit hard, yet they are weekend drivers for most owners. I, for one, have never seen one on a rainy or snowy day. For the most part, I see them out on nice days just cruising around with a gray haired middle age guy behind the wheel.

So no, resale value/depreciation should not be the dictating criterion to decide whether a car can be a weekend driver or not.

While I agree with your reasoning on the Maserati's being weekend cars that depreciate very fast, I can't believe you would compare it to a Hyundai Genesis.

A Hyundai is an affordable vehicle.

A Maserati is a Maserati.

You are comparing apples to oranges.

I hate it when I see a Quattroporte driving in light snow. It makes me cry inside.

I should have been more clear with my reasoning, depreciation is only one of the factors that I would put into consideration. I would also put into consideration that it's a normal DD car. There's NOTHING special about this car. Yeah it's a nice car but it's nothing that needs to be stored away to be protected from the rain.

An RS4 is made to be abused in snow.

I'd have to go with a yes

Meh, for $42k you could pick up one of these

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/pcnvTNmrgPo&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&featur e=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pcnvTNmrgPo&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&featur e=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I'm sorry but any category you bring up here, the S4 wins. And you can pick one up in pretty good condition for well under $42k..

And while we're on the "weekend car" side of things, that leaves you money to put one of these under the bonnet ---> MTM Supercharger

Now that, > Genesis.

but it's subjective. It really depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a cruiser, you get a Genesis. If you're looking for a fun car, you get an S4.

First time I drove an S4 I was in shock. The 04 with a V8 is an amazing machine over the previous gen. I couldn't believe how smooth the engine and the 6MT worked together.
