We had highs around -15F with windchills in the -40F range last winter. I have a pretty solid idea of cold.

I don't even know that kind of cold.

Re: summer tires year-round. For the sake of argument let's say "south" is roughly southern VA/NC as furthest north. Apparently it's more split east/west than I thought too

I'll keep my t-shirt weather in December, thanks.

I've been at music festivals at both almost 0 F and almost 100 F, I'd much rather die in a pool my own sweat than become a popsicle.

You know it's cold when the car's thermometer just gives up and gives you two hyphens: --

Come up to MN, you get to experience the crappiness of both extremes. 105F and humid in July and -20F with a -40F windchill 6-7 months after that. Yay.

I knew what -15 felt like when I was in Rochester, NY for school. I have no idea what -40F feels like and I don't ever want to find out.

Yes welcome. Please bring at least $1M for a decent house close to work otherwise you'll spend 50% of your life in traffic wasting your $4/gal gas after paying a crap ton in income/sales tax.

hard pass.

If you got that gig at Google you'd be making 2x what you're making now
You and your family could move into a 2 bedroom apartment that you share with only 2 other people

You could then commute to work together in a used Prius V

Dude

Why it's so easy to live at Google - Business Insider

I have a dumbass buddy who works at Google (a smart and savvy one too).
Well.. I told dumbass buddy that everything comes with a price at Google.

He was like.. they paying me 176k starting. I'm like.. that's below average there.
Didn't listen, took job, living with 3 other guys in a 2 bedroom place paying 5k / mo. in rent

My other buddy got in early, bought a townhome for a meager 500k about 15 years ago.
You can imagine how much it's worth now.

Btw.. median home price around the googleplex is 2.5M.

You know me well.

And watch me bring my own chopsticks to eat from when I go to the cafeteria.

And then, invite my family for dinner since I believe it's free for family too.

I think at the time, it was a mid-level BA and the play was $220K. SOMETHING like that. Anyways, no point...I failed like the bad that I am.

I'll live up to my stereotype instead by going in a white car with red interior that I can't drive.

H.. you are google caliber mang.. fa sho.
I know plenty who didn't even get the flight out.

Their interview process is bullshit, but necessary for all the resumes they get.
When I got out of school, they weren't hiring any hardware folks
Now you can't toss a cat without hitting one there.

They probably just found out about your robot fetish.

We were looking at Menlo Park at the time (this was 2012) and that general area...I think a townhouse that had about 1400 sq. ft. was possible for about $700K? I have to check my notes when I was researching this...but, it was, manageable, I think. Honestly, it's just a neat what-if scenario if it panned out and/or if I continued to pursue working there (I think if I applied again, I would've gotten in per what people tell me).

I blame Little Cha. I'll beat him later for this just to remind him of what he did to me.

You're too kind. Or they fell for the BS and then, realized it was all BS when they met me. Just ask Miz, asianspec, et al about how full of it I am.

Speaking of cold weather, I just bought the wheels for my vapor car today.

These ones: https://www.audi.ca/ca/web/en/models...99B%20AX1.html

...with Continentals per Maj's recommendation.

Stealership will hold onto them until the vaporcar arrives.

I think i mentioned this before... i was born and raised in a city next To Russia. While i would not say i could see Russia from my house, but -40C was the average and the winter was 6 months long. The snow was knee high and i had to walk to my elementary school.
So yah i know how it is....
