Umm they're normally on the street. Test drives open at 9am so I'm hoping they have a route set up that doesnt get to much traffic. Maybe I'll have one street thats empty :wish:

We're just a few hours from the in-person release of the Subaru BRZ Concept STI here at the 2011 L.A. Auto Show, but Subaru has already let fly with official images and some details on everyone's favorite why-the-hell-isn't-it-out-already rear-drive coupe. So, technically, this is a concept based on a concept. Inception? Yo dawg I heard you like concepts so....? According to the press release, the team focused on "pure handling delight" with the BRZ Concept STI, "by making full use of the horizontally opposed boxer." There are STI touches -- wheels, quad pipes, fender flares, diffuser -- a lower front spoiler hanging off the hexagonal grille and a silly rear wing that Subaru swears adds downforce to keep the car going in a straight line at high speeds. We also have a carbon-fiber roof here which, combined with the already super-low center of gravity should make for a more tossable car. Subaru doesn't go into performance detail on the 2.0-liter boxer, but it does say it has a square bore of 86mm-by-86mm. It's 166.5 inches long, 71 inches wide, 50 inches high and has a 101-inch wheelbase. Tires are 215/45R18 up front and 225/45R18 out back. Look for real shots from the show floor later today. |
Remove the spoiler and I think it looks pretty good. The rendering from a week or two ago didnt do much for me, but the latest do.
|
man keeping the rear tires on that thing for more than 20,000 miles would be very hard
And since its staggered you can't rotate them! |

Im not a big fan of spoilers (even though my car has one). I think it looks better without:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...cdrivr/brz.png I also darkened the wheels and that fender thing. |
No spoiler ftw
|
I like scion look better but if subaru comes out with turbo boxer i am down.
|
Toyota has the better design....however they both are in need of a turbo.
|
I do agree that the Toyota/Scion version does look better, but the Subbie version isnt as bad as first though (to me).
And as I said before, give me a low powered NA motor for insurance purposes and let the aftermarket work its magic. |
really whats with you guys and no spoilers!!
They make it look better! Now i'm not talking about those big ass wings, just small ones. Like on the 2nd gen tl like I have, I think without the spoiler the backend looks ugly. |

Subayota or.... Toyobaru
|
This BRZ reminds kinda Lancia Stratos lol. Maybe because of Subaru's rally history then Lancia Delta (subaru Impreza) and BRZ now looks like Stratos.

My insurance is pretty low with my car. It went down by a lot from 3G TL to MS3. I pay like $100 per month. :O

Scion version looks better...no spoiler on either, though.
|
Unless I missed something, it's just weird to see a Subaru without AWD.
|
I dont see the BRZ spoiler as being that big...
I'll reserve judgement till after the auto show and let you know what I think. I just dont like when they are high up. And its not that high in this case. Take it over the old sti spoilers that were like 2 feet off of the trunk anyday |
One last thing...
Since I was 16 I've wanted to buy a GTI as my first car, before then I went through many cars that I wanted to buy before till I ran into the GTI. 5 years later nothing compared to the GTI in my mind for value and a car that I desired. That may have changed with either the FRS/BRZ... Now I know I wont be getting a new car for a couple years at least. But I believe the day I do, its going to be a very difficult choice. |

But the spoiler on the BRZ is huge!!
What Im saying is look at the insurance on something like the base WRX, then the STI. Teenagers can't really afford to have STI, but they can definitely get their hands on WRX due to the huge price difference between the two. And I don't know why but teenagers just love to wrap their cars around light poles. :dunno: |

In terms of the insurance rate between WRX and STI, WRX is much higher than STI because the age level of WRX drivers is significantly lower than that of STI.

Really? wow.. maybe.
In Cali, at least most of the major insurance companies said the same thing. |

Sounds like the rates I looked at between C5 Z06s & E46 M3s. The M3's rate was surprisingly lower by a good margin. :annoyed:

Just thought I'd post this road trip around the US compressed into five minutes. Makes me want to hit the road even more than usual.

Saw this interesting thing on an old school Lincoln Town Car today:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...117_140257.jpg They had an interesting way of showing the outside temp in the 80s  Also, heated mirrors must have been pretty high end tech back then. |
Yea, I remember seeing that as a kid growing up. Didn't know what it was at the time and never asked.
|
I was getting out of my friends car and it caught my eye. Ive never seen it before.

:pimp:

Heated mirrors with a thermometer gets all the biddies. :O

Went to the auto show today, was pretty fun. Spent more time in line/doing test drives than the show lol
I got to drive: CTS CTS-V! Cruze Eco Volt Camaro SS Genesis 5.0? Veloster Favorite of course was the CTS-V, but the cadillac people were reluctant of us accelerating or going to fast. Apparently someone yesterday got a 130mph speeding ticket on union st. Was a $1000 fine. Surprised he didnt get hauled off to jail. They other guys in the other cars allowed us to accelerate quite a bit. Still I would put it in manual mode and take it to high rpm in 1st gear lol :D just to hear it. And every time i'm slowing down, down shift into first and hear the blip, ohh man sounded so nice! I actually like all the cars I test drove. Cruze surpised me. Its kinda peppy for being an eco car. The veloster was nice, although it just needs more power. It sounded nice, but it didnt feel like you were moving to much. Genesis sadly I had traffic most of the way. Camaro was nice, had a good amount of torque. And in that car you dont really here an exhaust note, its more of an engine note. I was kinda surprised by the Volt, I liked it. You have a good amount of torque in that thing too. And its all futuristic and cool. Didnt like the touch buttons though. |
As for the show itself, after looking at the BRZ, I think it looks great. The lady said that its an sti trim for the concept only, when its revealed in two weeks it wont have that so my guess is a different spoiler or no spoiler will be on the BRZ stock.
Also for those of you going to the show. When your in the cadillac area of the show floor. Find a product specialist and ask if you can sign up for V labs if you want. What it will do is if they come to your area they'll send out an email and the first people to respond can participate in the event. They do various events, but the one that caught my eye was driving the V around the track lol. Also I really like the new CC, it looks good. And the interior is nice, although its pretty much the same? The seats felt so soft! GT500 looked amazing! and the 2013 mustangs in general are better. |

The R-Spec was the Genesis they had at the drive event at our auto show...very impressed with it.
the steering wheel. The center part looks big and ugly, the leather where your hands are feels cheap. |
Someone get me a Mk. IV & a big turbo, please.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGep_p6LnuI Stuff like this makes me really want to pick up a 'Vette & go nuts. :whyme: |
