Well I finally was able to take a new 2005 6mt out for a test drive this morning and I have to tell you that the extra horsepower and the new transmission are really impressive.

I did not in any way "push" the car. I simply drove it the way any normal person would drive but the acceleration and smoothness of the tranny were evident immediately.

The interesting thing is that the redline has been bumped up to 7000rpm from 6500rpm and the small gauge between the speedo and the tach is the rev warning gauge for the 6mt THAT YOU SET! You have the ability to set the rev warning light at any setting between 2000rpm and 8000rpm. Once you set it as it approaches the set rpm it starts blinking and once it hits the setting it turns solid red.

You set the rpm by using the same setting device for the tripmeter. Push it once for trip A twice for trip B and three times for rpm.

That's a cool feature with the Rev warning. The STI has that also. I swear, the only thing holding me back from an G35 is the interior. I just can't get past that late 80's interior look.

I will say that car is very high up on my list for next cars. almost 300hp, 4 doors, 6 speed

 

My Z has it as well.. Pretty useless though

Even with the newer interiors I still think it looks ugly/cheap.

While certainly taste in a car's interior is subjective, those of you that dislike it should really go drive one.

After about the 2nd WOT and a hard cornering turn, you pretty much forget about everything else.

Seriously though. It may "look" bad, but it's completely functional and the materials are not cheap.

My G has 10,700 miles on it and it doesn't have one pop, squeak or rattle. Best built car I've ever owned.

 

It's a good car all right. IMO, when you drive a luxo car, looks is an extremely important feature. I spend my time inside a car so I'd want to feel and see a quality looking interior. The only Infiniti I want to get is the 03-04 Q45. That's quality there
But then it is double the price.

 

The G35 is a very nice car... but if you are looking for a sportscar, just get the 3fiddy.

 

I agree the G may look cheap from the layout(80's style buttons, etc)...BUT, the feel of the materials and console makes up for most of the poor look.

The quality is definitely there, regardless of the look. My Acura has a nice utilitarian layout and nice feel to the interior vinyl pieces, but the G has a better feel for fit/finish on the components/leather,etc.

Plus, nothing wrong with actually having a BOSE stereo & speakers...instead of a Panasonic HU and BOSE speakers... Makes a world of difference.

As for the G35c, it seems like a lot of you guys are just trying to hate on Infiniti at all costs. I read in a magazine once that this car is a ''Z car for people with lives'' and I agree with that assessment 100% because it is an extremely attractive 4-seater with plenty of speed at hand and an interesting and distinct exterior. As for the interior I would much rather prefer an Acura interior as well, but there are plenty of people out there that like this car a whole lot because of its simplicity and I am one of them.

And as for the guy who said whoever likes this car should just get a Skyline, I bet plenty of people would love to have a Skyline in the United States but it's not exactly possible, now is it?

 

Only if you see it through cynical eyes. Honestly, what is wrong with saying you don't think the Infiniti's interior looks good? Everyone has his own opinion. This is so rampant over on the TL board it's ridiculous. The minute someone says something bad about the Infiniti, someone else comes in and calls the other person a hater.

 

Sure, just buy a G...instant JDM Skyline.

Nope.. The 350Z is called the Fairlady Z in Japan.. The G35c is the Skyline

 

Now that's a good combo.

 

Personally I think the interior of the '05 G35 coupe looks better than my current '01 CLS and the exterior looks 100 times better and still faster...Now I was considering the new TL, though the interior does look better in the TL than the G35, it doesn't compare in the exterior department and it is RWD.

I don't want the 350z because it is only a liitle bit faster, 2 seats and you get nissan service instead of infinity. Plus, with me leasing, I can lease it for cheaper than a 350z

6 Infiniti dealers within 25 miles of me in Los Angeles.

Each dealer has 20-30 G35Cs in stock.

Only 2 I repeat 2 dealers had ONE 6spd in stock EACH.

So, pretty much in all of greater LA...out of over 120 brand new G35Cs on the lot....there are ONLY TWO man, I do hate LA sometimes. Every pecker head and their mother HAS to have an auto...

IMHO, Acura makes the best interior cabin of any cars on the market. Period.

As for the G35 vs. 350Z, while they share many of the same parts, they are different animals. I test drove both, and like them both, Just depends on personal preference. I went with a Z Roadster for the drop-top, fun car to drive! Not as refined as the G35 (or the CLS for that matter), but again, it's a different animal altogether.

Agree that if you could put an Acura cabin in that Nissan/Infinity platform, you'd be looking at the best car on the market!

 

OMG a G35C with the new TL interiors and maybe a trunk that can hold more than a shoebox would be awesome! I think they should get rid of the unsusable rear sets on the G35c and just give it a bigger trunk.
Maybe the CL just spoiled me as far as what how much room to expect from a coupe.

 

What's the deal with mis-matched front seats in both cars? My eyes playing tricks or what?!

 

 

Man I love the G35C .. I wish Acura would drop hints on another coupe to replace the CL ... but alas, I can't wait

 

any speculation as to how much faster this 05 will be? mid-high 13's?

The driver gets a "better" seat than the passenger. Shows how driver-centric the car is. I like.

 

I doubt it will do mid 13s. Maybe at its best runs, but not at consequtive runs. Personal guess.

 

I got the 6MT at the top 3 or 4 cars on my list to buy this year. Will have to go out and start test driving. I will start going out in February.
