Future Acura CL ?

When is Acura going to make a new CL coupe to challenge the G35. Right now Acura has no new Luxury Sports car. I wish they would make a new 09 CLS with a 300HP 3.2 V6 with twin cam, 11.0 pistons and 6 speed.

What u guys think ???

Acura is a sport oriented brand to give Honda buyers a sportier alternative...that's why they focus on sedans and SUV's.

Well...
This topic has been hashed and re-hashed ad nauseoum.
But you're new, so we'll cut you a break.
Long story short, a majority of us would LOVE to see a 300+ hp, AWD, sport/lux coupe from Acura. It's the general consensus that will not be happening, in any form, any time soon.
As it happens, Acura is too late anyway...many of us have moved on to BMW, Infiniti or even Honda as most of us have grown impatient of waiting for them to listen to their enthusiast consumers.

Acura has to go 4wd or RWD... The current type-s is a 3.5l near 300hp but it still doesn't compete...

People have been asking about a follow up to the CL since the rumors of the CL being discontinued back in Jan. 2003...

There's been a "sub-nsx" listed on http://www.vtec.net/modelmatrix/ since like 2003 or 2004, so we'll have to wait and see if Acura can come up with something.

The next gen NSX was scratched (see nsx thread in our auto news forum), so I think Acura is trying to redo the NSX before the start work on a lower priced coupe.

I've only got 63K miles on my CL 6spd, so I'm good for awhile, but I would love to see another coupe from Acura. When the time comes for me to get another car, I might have to look elsewhere (bmw 1-series, etc).

I can't see it taking much to take a stretched version of the s2k platform, throw in some barely useable rear seats, make it a hardtop with a 3.2-3.5L V6, and call it a day

Rumor has it that a 2dr. TSX will be offered.

But remember, that's just a rumor.

I am with you on this one esp a hardtop.....A T/L size two door hardtop, SH and 300+ could wear a CL badge...soft talk around the dealer is a TSX coupe next year but no TL size coupe?? nothing solid on that and TSX can not reach the CL level....

I think the next person that makes another "when" post about a new Acura CL should be subjected to auto-ban.

You've been spoiled by the RL

If I had an SH-AWD RL, I'd say the same thing

Nah, it's a harmless question...

When I look around and see rumors of a new AE86, and the 1-series finally making it to the US in coupe form, and the G37 coming out, etc etc, I always wonder where the fuck the acura coupe is...

I've been here for 5 years now, driving the same CL, so I'm getting itchy for something else, and like mrdraino aluded to, my itch isn't going to be scratched by no stinking sedan or suv...

Anyone see this yet? http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/31/s...y-acura-sedan/
Not a lot of details as of yet, but there's been talk of a TL with over 300hp and SH-AWD and another lux car above the RL. All still rumor mill though...

There was some pretty sexy photoshops of a TL coupe over in 3G a while back. Won't be a reality for this model, but I think Acura definitely could have pulled of a side by side launch, and will hopefully consider it in the future.

True, but most people believe that the next gen TL (and possibly the TSX) will have sh-awd... I think that's the road that acura is heading down. Much like Subaru, I think Acura's lineup will be ALL awd at some point. I don't think that's a good thing either... Maybe offer it as an option, but the added cost might steer some shoppers towards other makes (like the Legacy GT).

While BMW, Audi, and Infiniti offer AWD, I would venture to guess the bulk of their sales are the FWD/RWD variety.

I would think the bulk of Audi sales are AWD. I can't imagine them selling too many FWD A4's.

Weather he has been there for 10 months or 10 years he doesn't necessarily have any more facts on future models then we do here.

My point is...If someone (i.e. Sales guy that you talked to) knew something of that nature as fact (not speculation), that fact would be made public pretty quickly and, inevitably, end up here in a matter of days. Aside from selling cars, sales guys sell hope. The hope that Acura will be putting something to your liking out VERY soon. "Don't go buy that AWD IS/GS or G/M just yet!, Acura is coming out w/ one too!" The fact of the matter is, they know that Acura is already behind the curve in that regard...

I mean, how many people have I read from this site alone that have heard their dealer/sales guy pontificate with regards to the "new CL" over the last three years, yet, where is our new CL?

Until it's made public by an Acura press release, I take these rumors with a grain of salt, you really never know what Acura is gonna do next to amaze or disappoint the consumer.

With that said, I'm sure the TL will be offered w/ the AWD system, and the TSX outfitted w/ a turbo 4 (if it hasn't already been made official) at least I hope.

How did we get on Sedans anyway!?

Man someone should send that pic down to Acura though because thats a really good photoshop.

As for the new Acuras having awd/rwd/fwd we are just going to have wait and see.

Just out of curiosity

Does anybody know when the new CL is coming out?

I didn't mean to jack the sedan thread - want me to start a new post?
