funny gas smell???

Hey, I was hoping someone on these boards had some experience with accords..

My wife has a 98 Accord V6 coupe, and the past three times she started the car, it smells like gas. But after a few minutes with the window open, it is gone. Any ideas?

I'm worried because my wife and son are in that car almost everyday, and naturally I want to make sure they will be fine. Help!

Not at all.

Does it have any hesitation turning over, is there any smoke in the exhaust, is the CEL on?

It does hesitate more than it used too. Just a little bit though that it never warranted a concern until now. What do you think it could be?

Has the air filter been cleaned or replaced? It can cause the car to run rich.

Either way, I would take the car to a mechanic ASAP! Worst case scenario, its a fuel leak and if thats the case I would not even turn the car over until it gets looked at

Mechanic look it over at Piazza Honda and said he could not find a problem...I replaced the air filter, and haven't smelled it myself yet, even though my wife says its still there...albeit more faint...no leaks though...could it be anything to do with a timing belt replacement? That's the last thing we got done before the smell came up

haha...yeah, as a matter of fact we were in Jersey this past weekend...but it smelled more like sewage than gas..at least on the Atlantic City expressway...kinda like that nasty rotten beach/saltwater smell, except nowhere near the beach...of which a Bugatti Veyron was tearing it up...you never really see those...
