THAT'S BLACK BOOK TRADE IN- Not private party. What's the mileage? Does it have the cold weather package? blablabla.
This car that I'm looking at also has New Dinan upgrades worth about $2600, a nice car cover and a code resetter. I think 22-23K is a fair price for this car. It's also the color combo that I like and the seller is very local.

Yes i added in for the mileage, CWP adds $350 and i used your local car auction centre based on state. And as for the New Dinan upgrades ask him to show where he paid $2000+ for them since there new.
All i can say is as long as you have done your research and to you, you feel the car is worth 22-23K then my all means go for it
As for the BB values we could talk about them all night. But is X-Clean Retail is $22,550 and Trade in is $18,495, you could use the middle number for private party, assuming you where not able to talk him down on price.
IF it is what is appears to be, and the car is as clean as it looks and runs good. Try that 20K cash in his face and see what happens lol....
BTW make sure you get a Carfax report......
Goodluck..

Sorry for the delay, the seller was on vacation for a week. I spoke to him today and we agreed that it would be prudent for me to have the cash when we went to my mechanic to look at he car. That way if I like it I can buy it, and he's not wasting his time.
I should be financed in less than two weeks. I'm pulling equity out of my house to get the car, re-model one of the bathrooms and re-carpet the downstairs. I'll buy the M3 and then sell/give away/burn for insurance the CL-S. I'll try to private party sell it but if I don't get any bites I'm going to CarMax it. (if they will take it)
If I do a $25K second mortgage on a 10 year term, the rate at my bank for prime A+ (I have a 720 credit score) today was 5.9%, making my payments about $277 a month. The benefits are that I can write off the interest, I instantly own the car, I won't have to carry full auto insurance coverage, and I can make extra payments to pay it off in less than 7 years.
Gimmie a couple of weeks and I'll post a video of me doing a burn-out in my driveway!

Just for reference ... my '98 M3 was totalled in April of '05. Car had 93,793 miles on it. Insurance company gave me a check for over $21,300 ... and except for the audio system I had in it, it was OEM throughout.
