Found a nice used M3

It's a '99 that's showroom condition. I mean SPOTLESS. Silver with black interior.

OEM 6 CD changer, OEM spoiler, computer, cold weather package, Vadar seats. Upgraded M3 wheels.

42K miles, mobil 1 used since 25K miles. Single owner, local professional that babied the hell out of it. The seats almost look like they haven't been used at all.

He installed a stage 2 Dinan chip, Dinan throttle body and Dinan cold air intake. He has also installed a completely stainless steel exhaust.

It comes with a nice car cover and a computer read/reset meter. The reason for the meter is that the guy just doesn't drive it anymore and it sat for a while. When he started it, it misfired and It threw a misfire code. This would cost $175 to have cleared by the dealer. For $75 on E-bay he bought a meter to do it himself in case it happened again.

Asking price is $25K! Market value for DEALER is that price. If I can get him down to $21K I think I'll bite. That's still top dollar for this car, but it's in pristine condition. My cousin is a mechanic that used to work at a BMW dealer. He now works at a privately owned Porche/BMW shop and will give me the low-down on the car for $85. The big things to look for on these cars are the sub-frame mounts and worn tranny mounts causing a missed shift causing an over-rev.

Thoughts anyone?

Yes, but M3s hold their values incredibly well.

You can find 1989-1990 E30 M3s going for 10k and up with over 100k miles on them.

Just budget for maintnence as parts are a lot more expensive then a CL-S and stuff will break, not neccisarily major stuff, but it still adds up.

I know this. I was looking at older audi S4 avants and allroads not too long ago.

I'm just pointing out the fact that its still expensive for a 7 year old car.

bringing the obvious to light

Thats sounds good but I don't see the reason paying 21K for a 7 yr old M3 , when you can get a 02 or 03 330Ci for the same price and just as fun to drive...

Good point but the e36 M3 has a better handling and slightly quicker.

But i would pick the E46 just because it has a better interior.

I've been researching 1995 porsche 993's that go for low $30's... that's alot of money for a 11 year old car

These old german cars do depreciate alot when they are new, but seem to stay quite stable in price when they are 7-10 years old.

For $21K, you might be able to drive it for a year and resell for the same price

I'm really starting to think that buying older cars with low mileage (less then 7-9K miles per year) is the better way to go rather then getting sucked into the new car scene (and everything that goes along with it).

The problem is how easy is it to find parts for a 10 yr old Porsche???

I had a deal setup a few months ago for a 98 Convertible showroom condition with 55k on it fully loaded I had them at 17,500 try and get them lower. It was silver on gray leather. The only reason I did not do the deal is the bank wanted to give me too high a rate because the year of the car and only would bo 36 month financing.

Sorry about the pics, here they are:

Interior is pretty dang clean. The leather is in great shape.

Note the Dinan Mass airflow sensor, throttle body and cold air intake. It's also stage 2 Dinan chipped.

No chips, scratches or anything. The car looks brand new.

Just looking the auction numbers for a 1999 M3 with 42Kmiles...

Between clean and average, RETAIL is between $22,550 - $19,250.

Private seller... You got to be under 20K.

He's asking 25K lol yeah right....

"No chips, scratches or anything. The car looks brand new"

Maybe but no matter what way you look at it the car is 6years old. And those M3 parts are not cheap.

Hate to sound negtive...but just looking out for a fellow acurazine member...

I hope you did not buy it yet......

Actually your price is about avarage for a *private* seller according to KBB and Edmunds.

As far as parts, I'm a good shade-tree mechanic. For the jobs that I can't handle, I also have a cousin who is a local BMW mechanic that races his own M3! He charges a flat $85 hourly rate and knows where to get the parts cheap.

PS: I'm going to balk at anything over about $20K.

Here's my 97 coupe:

I've heard that driving experience wise, the e36 m3 will blow away the 330ci. Add the ZHP package to the 330ci and it's about the same, but then it gets pretty expensive.

Fun car but dont let that interior catch up on you. Everytime i look at pictures of an e46 interior it makes start thinking about moving up to a 03 m3.

No problem at all.. heck, even the early 70's 911 is surported by the dealer and aftermarket suppliers very well... Parts aren't cheap, but they are available.

What good are auction numbers to the average buyer? Dont you need a license to even go to an auction?
