But like in most turbo cars, 1st gear sucks ass. The GTO had power all over the place.

Its really only thing i dont like about 4banger turbos.

Sooo... I all but pulled the trigger on a black, '05 Legacy GT wagon with 6k miles yesterday. Price is expected around $19k (I realized I have a connection at a local dealership ). I put a deposit down and the dealership owner is going to order it and ship it in for me.
My bad. I read that first but didn't see his correction.

Everyone that has had either the 04 or the 05 plus cars that I have met love them. And I mean LOVE them. I am sure when people say that the handling isnt that great...i am sure it is alot better than compared to the CL-S's. I love the interior. I know the 05's have been upgraded but for the prices you get the 04's I dont see how you can go wrong. And with some headers you are getting the same HP. I have driven the 04 a few times and I love that car. I would buy one in an instant (any year GTO) if i wasn't buying a house and getting married this year.

Sorry Scott.

no need to apologize to me, I loved both the WRX and the Legacy as well. I just listened to you and opted out of a turbo 4 for a NA 6 liter V8

None of the cars listed truely "impressed" me, but the GTO definately gave me the biggest smile when punching the go peddle

That is what I love about this car, I had a modded WRX run me on the freeway last week. I was going 65 and just kept the car in 4th (3rd ends at 90) and sure enough there was enough power to pull away from him, couldn't believe it.

This car makes 300+ lb ft at idle virtually!

it still catches me off guard, adri and I went canyon driving last weekend, I can't get over the "throw your head in the back of the seat" feeling this car has even at low RPM's

Of course I'd rather have the '05+ but the '04 is such a great deal hard to justify the extra money for the new motor.
There were also improved brakes, new hood and other things that I think would push me to an '05. Don't forget the fuel bill though, if this'll be a daily driver.

This thread is starting to depress me. I always thought an S2000 would be my weekend toy but a V8 is starting to look too tempting.

no doubt, i'm definately learning to respect the beast, I took traction control off around a corner the other day and flipped her completely around, went into the opposite lane and everything, luckily no one else was comming. I'm gonna leave the TC on for a little bit longer

About the same locally for under 20k miles.

Seems like the best performance bang for the buck out there right now as long as it isn't gonna die on me every 2 months.

So... what's the story?

My friend got his 04 *NEW* for about $20k. So $19k is a ripoff IMO.

I get the same if not better then I got in my CL on a daily basis (avg 19-20 on a daily basis). On the hwy we did a 200 mile trip, I saw 25.9 mpg at the end.

well your friend also got some serious GM rebates, etc. Those who got deals on 04's lucked out, it also shows these cars hold their value a good amount.

Steve, i'd look around the country, there are still new 04's on lots!

NONE of the prices I have seen locally would reflect that. Unless "about $20k" = $25k

Local '04-'05 GTO's for sale

Brand new out the door with taxes it was $22k. With all of the rebates you could get one for about $20k.

That Ad shows right there $21.5k... new!

again

So seeing as how you could buy one for $21.5k new, I sure as shit wouldn't pay $25k for a used one. Especially with all the wierd issues they had.

However those sale discounts are now gone

I wasn't contesting the ad or your claims since you posted the ad. Just throwing a in there 'cause I have no worthwhile response

Okay Autotrader returned 12 NEW '04s in the country but they are still listed at ~$25-33k.

What's a realistic price for a leftover '04 considering they were sold for $21.5k when introduced? $19-20k?

they were going for $28k when introduced..

all those GM crazy rebates pushed it down to like $23-24k the few places I went to (i was looking at a g6 gtp coupe at the time)..

I would email some dealers. Tell them what you want and ask what they can do for you.

honestly, since the GMAC pricing still isn't in effect, i'd try 21K. When I was looking at ne 05's I was targeting around 28K for those
