Fog Light Warning!!!

This has been brought up before but I thought it needed repeating. With approx 3000 miles on my car I noticed one of my fog lights had a crack. My dealer says warrenty won't cover it because it was due to being hit by a rock. While I was figuring out the best approach fixing it my other light cracked. My work car is a Neon with 150,000 miles and both the fog lights are fine. I suspect the Tsx is lower but I have not measured the clearance from the road. Dealer wants $208 each to replace. They are both still functional and I still love this car and this has been my only problem. I will get some clear bra material to put on the outside of the lenses when I do a repair. I suggest everyone does the same!

Lessee...on my Volvo I've gone through TWO foglights, FOUR headlights and I'm on my THIRD windshield!

(May our evil governor burn forever in Hell for contracting Tony Soprano's company for the state's highway construction!)

Problem with the 3M stoneshield material is that from posts on the VW-Audi board I've read of the glass lenses cracking because of heat buildup from the stoneshield material, without being hit by any stones. The entire foglight kit costs $279.50, shipped, from one of the discounters, so a single lamp can't cost nearly that much. Taking the front bumper off is a "piece of cake', I've done it half a dozen times myself!

I have the clear bra material on my headlights and foglights. Got them put on a few months ago. My foglights didn't crack, but the 3M meaterial did from the heat of the foglamps. We used the 20mil material first and cracked/bubbled and then he put on the 40mil material and I haven't had a problem since..

I'm shocked.. My '94 850 has about 150,000 highways miles and I haven't been through one windshield/headlight/foglight/..

I've noticed that my tsx foglights are starting to pitt badly. There have been a bunch of reports about the foglights breaking.

I just noticed that my Neon work car has a plastic lens over the fog lights. Explains why they have held up for 150,000 miles. Cheesy but functional I guess.

I think these paint chips and busted fog lights are something for the Yankees and Canucks among us to deal with (and those Southerners who find themselves on gravel roads often).

In those states that have their highways sanded often, there seems to be an overabundance of chips and things. Look at the locations on threads dealing with them.
