florida car title question.. need help!
Hello,
I bought a car from a florida used car dealer.. I paid for it over a month ago (wire transfer) and took delivery of the car exactly 2 weeks ago.
For those who don't know me, I'm from Quebec, Canada. I need to have the title in hands before the car can cross the border.
After all this time, the dealer have not been able to provide me with the title. I was told there was a lien on the car and that the previous owner (a dealership) was going to pay it off and then the bank would release the title. That was like 3 weeks ago.
I checked online and there is a valid electronic title for the car. Carfax doesn't show anything wrong, either.
Is there anywhere I can call to see if the lien has been released or to get an update on the title or something..?
The guy at the dealer I bought the car from keeps telling me he's "working on it", "still waiting", etc...

There's a website to check the status of titles in FL, but it doesn't seem up to date...
I know the dealer, by law, has 30 days from the date of delivery to provide me with the title.. For now, I guess all I can do is wait.
The dealer is in Miami...

the site is def up to date, usually like 24-48 hour update time...
OK, Thank you very much for this information.
Actually, I called the DMV this morning and they told me nothing has been done yet regarding this vehicle/title.
I'm going to file a complaint with the DMV.
My car has been stuck at the border, parked for 7,35$ a day, since October 17th... How nice is that.

I thought I'd follow up on this...
I finally received the title at the beginning of January...
Now that this is pretty much over, here's my story:
Bought a car over the phone from Miami Auto Wholesale & Export in Miami. Asked the salesperson before buying if the car was in good shape (ie. no scratches, dents, tires, etc.). I was told everything was in excellent shape and not to worry.
To sum it up, when I went there to get the car (that was already paid for in full, I had no other choice due to my situation), this is what I found out:
- cracked inner front fenders (both sides)
- front tires were bald on the inside, rears had about 20% left
- driver side door was repainted and the work seemed to have been done by a 4 y.o.
- scratches on the driver side corner of the rear bumper + driver side mirror
- scratches at the bottom of the front bumper
- left muffler/tips kinda bent to the left
- airbag lamp would light up randomly
Tell me about excellent shape!
On top of having to wait several months for the title to show up, the salesperson was rude, everyone at the dealer seemed to be avoiding me/my calls, etc.
I had to get a lawyer for them to make a move.
To make a long story short, AVOID 'EM!

It was paid in full before i even got there. i came by plane to get the car...
i just ordered a set of new tires.. and will be getting a quote for the paint work.. 150$ was already spent at the dealership to try and fix the airbag problem...
