Floor Jacks?

Any recommendations on a good sturdy floor jack?

I am looking at the Arcan 3.5 ton, read some great reviews on it but the thing weighs a 100lbs!

As long as you aren't jacking up my mother-in-law you shouldn't need anything that big lol.

I have one from lowes, cant remember the brand but its blue/gray and was like 85 bucks, but I like it

I got my 3 ton jack from Pepboys, plus it came with two stands. At $40, it wasn't a bad deal.

I have the Arcan 3.5 Ton bought it for $99.99 plus tax. For the price it cant beat. It is really heavy though, but i dont plan on carrying it around with me, it stays in the garage.. In my opinion it always safe to get a larger jack than you actually need just to be on the safe side.

Arcan low profile jacks

Oh and Harbor Freight jack stands are fine. The automotive tech school I went to (not Wyotech/Sequoia or UTI) had a dedicated day and evening program and they had mostly HF jack stands.

I would spend the extra few dollars on getting a decent quality jack as my friend just passed away from a failing jack that landed the car on his body. Just a thought, although it maybe a bit far fetched of that happening but you never know.

I have a 3 ton low profile jack from Walmart since 2003 for something like $59 and have no issues to date! That thing weighs like 50+ lbs though.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

I never get under a car being held up by a jack, I only go under cars with jack stands. Much safer way to go.

Not to sound mean or any thing, But that was dumb, and the same thing could happen with a quality jack. That is why you are NEVER supposed to work under a vehicle WITHOUT jack stands.

It's pretty good. It's light and easy to move around. If I need to go anywhere it's the one I'll take. And they are 3 ton jacks, not 4, my bad

Excellent choice, my buddy has the same one, color and all. I've used it probably dozens of times. Okay, maybe only slightly more than a dozen but if this jack isn't low enough for you, you're doing it wrong.

Good info. I'm in the market forvone too. The way I see it, I will only be using it every so often, I don't jack my car up every day, at that point almost anything would work for me. Oh yeah, has to be allow profile one though.

Here's a tip when you jack up your car. I always use at least two jack stands.... obviously on one side of the car, two in front or two on one side, etc. Use the jack to very slightly push up on a suitable jacking point on the highest part of your car once it's been jacked up all the way, that way it basically has 3 jack stands. If you're really careful, you can also leave one of your wheels face up so that in case of a drop, it impacts the wheel/tire before it does you.

After all, better to ruin one of your wheels than your face, arm, or worse. It's a bit much, and even I don't use the wheel method all the time. But the fewer chances you take when getting underneath a 3500 lb slab of metal and plastic that doesn't discriminate what's underneath it, the better.

Obviously, to cover my ass legally everything I said was just a big ole' crock of shit and nobody should listen to it. Also, I have very little in terms of assets

Ok so now I am in the market for some good low profile ramps? Any ideas? Race ramps are good but they cost a fortune!
