Fighting front plate ticket...

Never thought i'd get hit, but I was in georgetown and I parked my car on the street for the first time ever. I *ALWAYS* just use the garage, however I found a VERY nice spot right in front of everything. Anyways, I get back to my car four minutes late and i'm hit with a $100 parking ticket ( ) and a $50 no front tag ticket. Now, I know theres nothing I can do about the parking ticket, however, I had no idea cops could just write you up for no front tags without even being there. Do I have a chance against it? I'm pretty sure they have heard every excuse in the book, but can't I say I just had the front bumper resprayed and I have to wait 2 weeks for it to dry?

Bastards. Looks like my stimulus check is going right back to the govt

No front tag is a non-moving violation so they'll usually do it when you're not in the car.
I had the same thing happen to me - I drove to Adams Morgan (which I never do, but my then-GF lived there) and found a VERY nice parking spot. It was legal, but I still got a ticket when I got back in the car - no front plate

It's only $50 - pay it and forget it. You can't make a conscious choice to ignore the law and not put a front plate on, and then not accept the consequences when the law catches up to you.

I have a friend that got a ticket for the same thing on her Rav-4 - she took a pic of the car with the plate back on and mailed it in... they dropped the ticket. Maybe that's worth a shot? But she lived in DC , so maybe it's different for VA/MD peoples.

When I got pulled over for that, I got a warning. Went without it for three months, but after I got pulled over, I threw it back on.

Yeah, it just sucks....$150 of useless non threatening tickets If I could knock 50 off that it won't be so bad Maybe i'll just send them an old picture with my tags on or something lol I honestly had no idea they could give no front tag tickets without you at least being there though...

I know, who knew they could give parking tickets with you not being there either

Same thing happened to me. I drove into the city and found a sweet spot for street parking.

Came back 1min past the meter expired and already had 3 tickets on the car. No front plate, tint, and parking. $150! Course it wasnt worth making a thread about

From now on i just pay to park in the garages.

There is nothing you can about that.

I got one few months ago and I just ended up paying for it. It was only $35 so wasn't so bad.

Yup. Pay it and get on with life. I got a tint ticket last month, first time in 18 months with illegal tint. It sucks, but it's "sexy car tax", basically. I'll treat a front plate ticket the same way, if/when I ever pick one up.

You got a legitimate ticket.

Shocker.

If you are knowingly and purposefully not using front plates, understanding that they are required in your State --- at least be prepared to accept the consequences when/if you're caught. It's such a minor thing. Really. Deal with it.

+1

I got a front plate ticket while parked at an airport. Found an end spot with noone in front of me. $25 ticket, but didn't have to prove it's been fixed. Paid it and still don't have the plate on.

I don't think they can write a ticket for your tints without you being in your car. They can't test the opacity without the window being rolled down, so if they just eyeballed it, you could probably get it thrown out in court, as no measurement was taken... I dunno.

yea, my friend got a no plate ticket when parked on the street at his house.

I got a parking ticket in front of my own house once, as I lived in a 2hr. parking zone. After the ticket I found out they had city permits you could get if you lived in these areas.

Weird. Thought they couldn't do that on private property.

Keep your license plate in the glove box, and when you park throw it up there in the dash/windshield

You can get a ticket for that. Might as well not even bother.

For them seeing you throw it up in the windshield, or it being in the windshield period??

being on the dash.
a friendly sheriff once warned me that it makes you more likely to get a ticket.
if a cop saw a plate on your dash, he'd realize it's not on your bumper.

Isn't there some people who can't put it on the front if they wanted to....

....unless they completely jacked up their front and???

not sure what you mean
there are probably special circumstances where you can get front plate exemptions, maybe for a historic car or something?

Well, usually if you break the law...you get in trouble.

But...if you're really THAT desperate to fight it. Play the race card. Are you black?

Otherwise, you're outta luck. Sorry.

What happen? if I remove plate and create a sticker exactly the same as No. plate. Will I still get the ticket? I was thinking to do it one day. I know regular plates have light reflection paint when you drive in the night.

i just got a ticket in front of my school at 3 in the morning after I got done studying at the library for no front license plate, tints, and "modified exhaust" according to the officer. Guess they had nothing better to do, but hopefully I can get it off. My old bball coach is a sheriff in sf so hopefully he can do something
