Not that I actually did it, but there is literally nothing holding it up. I could name 100 little things that Acura does better than Infiniti when it comes to interior design/comfort/design

My old boss used to tell me not to park my car in front of the dealership because he didn't want me to switch potential buyers to the TL

^ if it weren't for the horrid plastic metal trim, that would look really good. And even back then the plastic was a dull, hard durable type. I don't know what people are complaining about when they say the TL's interior is cheap.

I've owned two 01 CLs and I think it is a great car. Acuras have nice looking interiors (except for the RSX and Integra) but they are not THAT much better that Infinitis. Trust me. Just because you may know first hand about the flaws of the G's interior (G35 I presume, which is cheap and cheap looking) doesn't make you an authority on all Infiniti interiors.

G35
1. manual door looks ( TL has digital )
2. Rocker switch for the side mirrors, feels like its going to snap off - i've only seen these in cheap rental cars
3. Hard plastics everywhere. (besides the center console, the TL is very soft to touch)
4. Auto shifter still has a release button
5. Heated seat controls feel really flimsy and make a cheap sound when you flip them
6. Radio and A/C controls use the same buttons with different text on them, not to mention they are extremely unattractive (radio/AC controls are completely seperate and are way easier to differentiate in the TL)
7. Infiniti clock is kind of just....there.
8. Roof lining is barely held in place
9. The "oh shit" handles are hard plastic (TL is wrapped in leather, or atleast something soft)
10. The entire convenience light area looks like its from the Altima
11. Unless you get the sports seats, the base/journey seats are pretty uncomfortable (seats don't compare to the TL)
12. Door handles feel/look cheap (TL has a satin finished handle on the interior)
13. Armrest does not slide (TL can slide pretty far up)
14. Overall door panel design is pretty ugly
15. Nav screen looks extremely out of place
16. Paddle shifters DO NOT move with the steering wheel on the sport model
17. VR controls are hard to reach
18. The "washi" aluminum trim looks extremely stupid in certain lighting conditions, the rosewood looks out of place and just "stuck on".
19. Door panels don't line up that well with the dash ( they're not much better on the TL, but it is less noticeable in the TL when the doors are shut)
20. The mid/tweeter speaker covers look like theyre from a Versa
Just some things I noticed after being in these cars for so long, some of which even clients pointed out. Since the G35 and TL are in the same class, I figured i'd just compare the two. I also know the TL better than any other Acura since I currently have one.

^ I agree, I've always felt that the TL had very nicely designed interiors. As a matter of fact, the 2nd gen TL interior was my favorite in it's class, and up until recently, so was the 3rd gen TL.
I just wished they would ditch the zig zag pattern for the auto, and use a straight down/leather shift boot type like Infiniti/BMW/Merc almost everybody else.
The only other brand that still does that shit is Lexus

Yeah the TL interiors age well. In terms of materials, the 1st gen TL ages very well. Not sure if its because the newer cars are 'cheaper' but I suspect its because they have easier to recycle materials.

You know for an Acura site it is VERY indicative of Acura's problems that no one has thought of posting a picture of the current RL. I'm biased, but it is one of the best interiors you can buy, for looks and ergonomics.
And the NSX interior is another example of Acura's problem. When it was a new car, and I mean 1990 not 2005, the majority of road tests gave the interior faint praise for being ergonomically sound, but to similar to the bread and butter Honda's! Now twenty years latter we can trully appreciate that interior for it's beauty, simplicity and staying power, while most of those motoring journalists have long since retired
Acura really does have an image problem!

The 997 GT3 isn't all that great interior-wise but I've always associated full suede-wrapped steering wheels and shifters with race cars. Kind of a nice touch if you ask me... pun not intended
I agree the zig zag pattern is cheesy and confusing (seriously, wtf is it for?) besides potentially one reason, which is to eliminate the shifter button on automatics, thus preventing an accidental shift or something. I've noticed that nearly all straight-down pattern shifters have the button, at least almost all older cars.
