Fatal Enzo Crash

Near Milan, some 41yr old...........not sure how fast the guy was going, but seeing how the car split completely in two would be very concerning if I was an Enzo owner.

What would the concern be about. Clearly this wasn't some 30 mph fender bender. I think it's safe to assume the person was going considerably fast. That having been said, I don't think any car going over 75 mph. would be very safe in a crash.

Either he died on impact, or he saw what he did to his Enzo, and killed himself.

It is a concern, read the ferrari board........Ferrari's tend to have some issue of splitting completely apart in more severe accidents.

I agree though, any small sports car could get demolished in a high speed accident.

I wish they had a wider shot of the accident. By the pics all the suroundings look intact, it looks like he ran off the road and the car exploded.

Well, I guess when you get a car that fast and that small, you inherently should know that you are probably sacrificing alot of safety features to get that speed.

It seems clear that people who design volvos and people who design ferarris definitely have different priorities... It doesn't even look like there was a roll cage.

That's really poor engineering IMO. Ferrari designed this car to be basically a street legal race car. The car should have had a FIA tub for the money you spend on the car. You can see that the CF tub split into two. The person might have had a chance had the car not split at the passenger compartment. I know that the CF tub in the McLaren F1 and Carrera GT is very rigid and stays intact upon impact.

That seems to be common with convertibles. A few years ago I remember hearing about some athletes - hockey players I think - who died when their ferrari convertible split in half in a wreck. If you do a search you can probably find the thread.

yup that was daniel snyder and dany heatly, unfortunately snyder was killed,(he was the passenger)
it was a black 360, but not sure it was a spider. excessive speed was involved and they hit a retaining wall i believe-just sad

another ferrari driver died in the mid west a month ago when he hit another car and it split in half

that enzo was flying, just look at some of the pics closely its really horiffic

it's actually an extremely safe car, safer then 90% of the shit out there, but serious speed will break anything.

Isn't the width of that tire a little too thin and the sidewall a little too thick for an enzo?

From the looks of it he lost control at a high rate of speed, went into the grass, and flipped his car very high in the air several times causing the car to split?

Wow... i mean that car looks like it was wrapped around a tree at one point maybe he did hit a tree?

you guys who keep talking about it not being a safe car have obviously never seen real pictures of accidents. Ive seen plenty regular cars (ie volvo, audi ect) torn in half in a accident. If the car is going fast enough (which this car more than likely was) and hits something sideways they will be torn in half

I don't even see any trees in the pictures, at least not in the immediate area. My guess is that he came around that corner flying, either lost control or saw a car or something and panicked then lost control, went into the grass sliding, flipped then split in half.

That's a scary crash, though. I hope the driver didn't suffer any pain.

The fronts are only 245/35/19, which you can find even on some of the TLs on this site. The rears, however, are 345/35/19 (both are still on the car so the one on the pavement is obviously from the front).

Fact is, Ferrari's have an uncanny coincidence of splitting in two quite frequently in severe accidents.

I didn't dream it up, people have been discussing the issue for some years now.

Also, I collect old Victorian post mortem photographs. As such, I have a great interest in death and have seen plenty of messy car accident photos.

I never said you did dream it up, just the fact that some make it sound like it only happens to ferrari and none other. Fact is ferrari is mostly composite and aluminium built, and most bad accidents in them are at or above tripple digit speeds which isnt going to be pretty no matter what your in.
