F@#$%*$ gas prices

I had a customer i've been dealing with all month, one of those guys that shops till no end to save on his lease. I was able to beat all of his prices, and he needed to delay because he was giving in his current lease early and had to get it inspected by the bank. The delivery was set for the end of the month, I was holding the car for him for the entire month. So I call him today because I forgot if he wanted the car this week or next week, he called and asked me if I heard about the market lately, I said no, what about....so he tells me they are saying the gas prices are going to be over $3/gallon, and the 8 cylinder 4 Runner i'm supposed to be getting for him is going to guzzle a whole lot of it, so he wants to cancel the order and maybe look into something with a smaller engine to save gas... I mentioned the V6 4Runner, he said it's only 1mpg less than the V8...If only he knew just how overrated those EPA ratings are.. He shouldn't be driving if he's going to be that worried about how much gas is going to cost...They've been talking about the price of gas to go up over $3 for the last few months, I don't know why he's so worried now all of a sudden... OK, I'm done...Carry on.

I heard the same thing about 3- 3.50 a gallon for gas. .the thing is OPEC is wrong hammering us this hard but at the same time I've asked a lot of my friends are you still cruising, or ones that are trading their older SUVs they are still getting new SUVs. the thing is we as a nation (if we work hard at it) can lower gas prices to a point. on the whole supply and demand game. i was happy when it was 1.50 or 1.75 i could live with it. but last friday was the last time i filled up. my gas light came on it cost 33.50 to top off my little accord it was 2.15 a gallon. now I've changed my ways since gas prices spiked. I used to go to college 5 days a week. now I go 3 days a week and take 2 online classes. I used to cruise occassionally now i almost never cruise, I used to always offer to drive when my buddies and went somewhere I now let them drive.
the bad part is SUV and pickup trade in value is gonna take a dump if gas prices continue the way they are. for 2 reasons #1. No one will want them due to high cost to operate.(only people who absolutely need them will own them like contractors, farmers, and people who live in the back country)#2. there will be a ton of used pickups and SUVs out there for sale so that goes back to my supply and demand. anytime the supply surpasses demand you gotta do something to dump more product so that usually involves cutting prices. I bet you see Caddy Escalade owners or H2 owners crying when they trade it in and they can't even pay off their balance on the loan.

It takes me about 2 weeks to go through my tank on the Tahoe. But right now ($2 a gallon) it costs me $46 to fill up. I'm just glad I dont have that far to drive with my SUV like some people...or this puppy would be gone.

What amazes me is that this guy who is considering leasing a brand new SUV costing as much as it does is worried about a few hundred (maybe as much as a couple grand) a year on gas. If he's really that concerned about gas, he wouldn't have been looking at SUVs in the first place.

The oil exchange is traded in US dollars, so fuel prices are actually hurting the Europeans more than us. Huge growth in India and China is eating into the relatively fixed global supply and that's the main thing that's driving prices up. OPEC is not "hammering" us. The increased global demand is. When everybody wants a slice of the pie suddenly, each slice gets more expensive. Who wants it most?

It just goes to show that Americans are hyper sensitive to even the slightest increases in gas prices (nevermind the fact that it's 2-4x more expensive in Europe), yet do not hesitate at dropping 30, 40, or even 50 grand or more on luxury vehicles. I don't quite understand it either. Other than that people might be cash poor and it really does affect their monthly budget. But in which case, why are they leasing extremely expensive luxury vehicles?

Except each of those people only consumes like 1/20th the resources of the average American. We should nuke America and get rid of all the greedy Americans instead.

We can't nuke China. Then Americans would have to pay $0.50 more for higher quality American made goods at Wal-Mart and that would be horrifying.

How is US$3/gallon that expensive? I pay C$0.90/Litre. ... C$1.23 = US$1 ; 3.78L = 1 gallon. Work it out ... US$2.76/gallon. Like posted above ... Europe and virtually all of Asia (except Saudi) pays > US$3/gallon. Malaysia (OPEC country!) -- they pay as much as I do. And how much do they make a year?

I think North America is way too used to low gas prices. Don't blame China/India for the current problem. Have Bush talk to Putin and sell the Yukos oil back to China/India and watch the oil futures go down in price back to ~US$35/barrel.

exactly IMO Wal-Mart has screwed America on exporting jobs because Wal-Mart will stop at nothing to cut cost so if that means going to China they will do it. This is why I don't shop at Wal-Mart much. China went from a some what developed nation to I think within 10 years they will be almost as strong as the U.S.A(as far as trade) so yes you might be saving 50 cent on your wash clothes but is it worth it at the pumps? because as contries become more "Industrialized " they buy larger and more powerful machine(which you guessed it) use more fuel. there's only so much oil in they can produce. since OPEC is greedy they will "sell to the highest bidder" so yes I'd love to Nuke China for 100's of reason(1 being gas prices. 2 being screwing our trade deceit out of this world 3. screwing with our jobs) but if won't let N Korea have a Nuke bomb I don't think were allowed to Nuke China

as much as I like to see this happen it wouldn't due to not only oil lobbist(OPEC) and the big 3 would have a cow about this. the H2 when gas prices wasn't terrible they were making a killing on them. Ford finally (at the end of this model year) will kill the Excursion. I personally think if gas prices remain at current price or go up(which i'm hearing reports they will be 3 dollars or better in the summer) they need to kill the Expedition,Chevy needs to kill the Suburban ,Yukon and Yukon XL. they all easily chug 15 mpg. it's really bad when you get them in traffic.
grant it I have 2002 Toyota Tundra 4x4 SR5 with a v-8. but I live in the country. i get 18-19 miles per gallon on the highway if i'm taking it easy. now the thing is you guy's "city driving" and my "city driving" is different we don't have many traffic jams where i go to college, we have lights but not as many traffic lights as NYC or Philly so their city driving will consume more gas. I'm done around 15 mpg when i take the truck to school(that's with about 30 miles of Interstate at 70-75 mph)

Highway mileage is usually very good on larger sedans and trucks. The problem is city driving, aka "chitty" (no fun!) driving with stop lights every block.

it already at $3 in certain parts of cali

there was also an explosion at a texas oil refinery yesterday, that might cause ripple effects in the supplies/prices

we should probably see $3 by summer if not sooner
