Extendeding the warranty for an Acura with <50k miles

Salesman at my dealer says I can not extend my warranty even though my TSX has less than 50,000 miles. He said check online for third party warranties. He's a pretty good guy so he wouldn't bs me, perhaps he's mis-informed?

I'm a little weary of third party warranty services and do not know much about them. I want to extend my current factory warranty. Is it possible to extend the current factory warranty on my TSX? If so, how?

I bought my TSX new about 2 1/2 yrs and 45k miles ago

Perhaps he is just misinformed. Try Montclair our sponsor above. On try Ray Laks here:

Price is fairly high I think. At this point why not just save up some money and take good care of it?

Also check this out: http://www.curryacuracare.com/whentobuy.cfm

The price goes up as your mileage goes up, but you just have to get it before 50k.

I was going to mention Curry. If you do a search on the car forums (CL,TL, TSX) you'll find more info on...

I waited to long on my CL and couldn't get an extended warranty...

Ray Laks is the best by far. I have been turned down TWICE by them. The warranty guy keeps on telling me to wait until I get to a certain mileage before I get the warranty, (in order to maximize it). Awesome & Honest guy.

I can understand why you'd want an extended warranty but you're driving a car that will probably do 200-300k miles easy. You might not keep it that long but the car will definitely do that ... Just something to think about.

It's not like you own a Chevy or something

Extended warranty is probably not necessary on a TSX, but I understand the piece-of-mind factor.....

I owned a shop for over 10 years(was involved directly with it for over 13) and have a lot of experience with non-factory warranties, they are TERRIBLE. I think I've only seen one or two settlements paid out of literally hundreds of claims. They do anything and everything to make getting your money so hard you just give up, or come up with changes in the policy that make your claim denied. The few settlements that were paid were both small, and they refused to cover labor, so they paid for the parts and that's it - in one case it was $30 for a water pump.

Self insure, if you buy the right vehicles and take care of them you'll be WAY further ahead in a short period of time, and have more then enough to cover any potential problem that could occur.

For some reason a lot of my stuff on my TL is still under warranty I bought it used with no warranty and it has like 116,000 miles. So I'm not totally sure the extended warranty is worth it the biggest repair I'm sure will be the timing belt.

The timing belt is preventative/scheduled maintenance so it wouldn't cover that. If it broke they'd ask to see when it was replaced, if it never was and was due according to the manufacturer then they'd deny the claim, and if it had been done they'd tell you to go back to who did it and make them cover it. The after market warranty companies are ruthless, if your lucky after they deny a big claim you may get a refund on the policy minus a prorate of what you used.

Age: 26? You had a shop at 16?

I agree with some here that i dont see the point of an extended warranty on a TSX. Dont people buy Acuras for the reliability? So why get a warranty..

Take that 2k or so that you would buy a warranty with and put it into a savings account. Keep it on the side in case you need any repairs done.

I agree with these guys. I really don't see the point of shelling out 2 grand for an extended warranty on an Acura.

But if you're gonna buy it for the peace of mind, then Tim at Hondacuraworld is the guy to buy it from. He stands behind his products and services. I've been dealing with him for about 4 years now and he never even came close to failing.
